Dewald Brevis delivers a knock for the ages

South Africa’s young batting sensation Brevis, fondly called ‘Baby AB,’ produced one of the most destructive T20I innings in history to power his team to a commanding 53-run win over Australia in the second T20I at the Bellerive Oval. His unbeaten 125 off just 56 balls not only levelled the three-match series 1-1 but also etched his name into multiple record books. Brevis became the youngest South African to score a T20I century and the second-fastest for the Proteas in the format, reaching the milestone in just 41 deliveries.

The 22-year-old’s performance silenced critics and reinforced his growing reputation as one of the most dangerous young batters in world cricket.

Speaking about the contest, Australia’s decision to bowl first paid off early when Ben Dwarshuis removed Ryan Rickelton and Glenn Maxwell struck twice to leave South Africa at 57/3, but Brevis turned the tide with a blistering 125* off 56 balls, featuring 12 fours and 8 sixes. His 126-run stand with Tristan Stubbs set records for the highest T20I score by a South African, the highest against Australia, and the highest on Australian soil, powering the Proteas to 218/7.

The bowlers then struck early to remove Travis Head and Cameron Green, with Kagiso Rabada ending Tim David’s brisk half-century.
