Jasprit Bumrah has found an unexpected way to unwind in Japan before the start of Indian men’s cricket team’s campaign at the Asian Games 2026. The India fast bowler visited a Japanese bedding studio for a personalised pillow, but the real entertainment came later when his wife, Sanjana Ganesan, reacted to the unusual shopping trip.

Teammate Axar Patel filmed Bumrah’s pillow-fitting experience, giving fans a glimpse of the Indian players’ relaxed side away from cricket. Sanjana’s playful comment on the video then turned the outing into a social media talking point.

Bumrah’s trip to the bedding studio was certainly more elaborate than an ordinary pillow-shopping visit.

Specialists examined his neck alignment and body contours before working out the appropriate support and height for his personalised pillow. Axar stayed behind the camera throughout much of the process, capturing Bumrah testing different options.

Bumrah appeared amused by the amount of attention being given to his sleeping arrangements. In the video, he joked about the detailed process before turning towards Axar and suggesting that his teammate would be next.

The outing also showed a more relaxed side of Bumrah, who is usually seen preparing for matches or leading India’s bowling attack.

The India all-rounder recorded Bumrah’s personalised fitting session and could be heard laughing as his teammate went through the process. Bumrah even shared a glimpse of the experience on Instagram with the caption: “The art of finding the right pillow.”

The interaction between the two teammates quickly became one of the lighter moments from India’s stay in Japan.

The biggest reaction came after the video appeared on social media.

Bumrah’s wife and sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan spotted the post and jokingly questioned his decision to travel all the way to Japan for a pillow.

Her comment sparked an equally playful response from Bumrah, who told her that he wouldn’t share the pillow when she eventually asked for it. The exchange quickly caught the attention of cricket fans.

The couple’s light-hearted banter added an extra layer to what was already an unusual off-field moment.

Why did Bumrah get a custom pillow?

The personalised pillow experience is not as unusual in Japan as it might initially sound.

Specialist bedding stores can assess an individual’s body shape, sleeping posture and alignment before adjusting a pillow’s height and support. The aim is to provide a more personalised sleeping experience.

For an international cricketer, rest and recovery are important parts of maintaining a demanding playing schedule. However, there was no indication from the video that Bumrah was seeking the pillow because of a particular injury.

Instead, the outing appeared to be a relaxed activity during India’s time in Japan.

Bumrah and rest of Team India prepare for Asian Games 2026

The pillow episode came as India continued preparations for the Asian Games 2026.

India recently played a rain-affected five-over T20I against hosts Japan, winning the contest by just two runs. India scored 32/4 before Japan finished on 30/3, with Axar defending two runs in the final over. Bumrah did not feature in that shortened match.

India have a direct entry into the men’s cricket quarter-finals, with their first main-event match scheduled for September 28.
