While Star Wars is packed with iconic battle sequences, there’s arguably no more recognizable event in the franchise than the epic conclusion of the original trilogy that unfolds during the Battle of Endor in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Fans hail this final confrontation as one of the best in sci-fi writ large, not just in the Star Wars universe, and for good reason.
The Battle of Endor and epic conclusion of Return of the Jedi seamlessly combine a massive space battle, a desperate ground assault on Endor, and Luke Skywalker’s emotional showdown with Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine into one unforgettable climax that forever changed the fate of the galaxy.
And amazingly, fans are getting a chance to step back into the universe just after the Battle of Endor ends and see the fallout in the following years, as the series is getting an official new release with Ashes of the Empire (via SW: Unlimited).
Star Wars officially returns to the era after the Battle of Endor with Ashes of the Empire, a brand-new set for the beloved Star Wars: Unlimited trading card game that’s expected to officially release this month. This is the eighth official new set for Star Wars: Unlimited, and it shifts the focus to the collapse of the Galactic Empire after Return of the Jedi’s finale.
The set draws heavily from Return of the Jedi while also incorporating characters and storylines from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. Featuring more than 260 new cards, it explores the power vacuum left by the Empire’s defeat through new leaders, mechanics, and collectible variants.
Ashes of the Empire introduces several major new gameplay mechanics, such as the new Support keyword that lets units enable another friendly unit to attack while temporarily sharing its abilities. The set also replaces Experience tokens with temporary Advantage tokens that provide short-lived power boosts, rewarding players who build wider battlefields. Luke Skywalker and Emperor Palpatine are featured as well, with Luke being a defensive healer and Palpatine having the ability to distribute Advantage tokens across large armies.
Collectors will also receive several new products with the expansion with Prerelease Boxes, standard booster packs, and limited-run Carbonite Edition boosters, including Carbonite-exclusive Prestige variants. The full set officially releases on July 17, 2026, with pre-release events already taking place as we speak.
Overall, Ashes of the Empire is an incredible new expansion for Star Wars: Unlimited TCG that collectors and hardcore fans will not want to miss out on, and you can use the search feature on the official website to find local retailers and events if interested.
