Arsenal missed the chance to close the gap in the Premier League title race as they fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to West Ham at the Emirates.

Jarrod Bowen found the net with a header on the stroke of half-time and in the end was the difference on what proved to be a frustrating afternoon for the Gunners, who ended the match with 10 men when substitute Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off for hauling down Mohammed Kudus.

Mikel Arteta cut a despondent figure on the touchline as the second-half seconds ticket away, the Arsenal boss and fans alike knowing an opportunity to cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the league to five points had been missed.

The defeat gives Arne Slot’s side the chance to go 11 points clear if they can overcome Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

In the lunch-time kick-off, Manchester United came from two goals down to rescue a point against Everton.

A thrilling encounter at Goodison Park saw Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure give the Toffees a deserved first-half lead.

But stunning strikes from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte after the break salvaged a point for Ruben Amorim’s side despite a late Everton penalty decision being overturned by VAR.

Elsewhere, a strike from talisman Matheus Cunha against Bournemouth gave Wolves a vital three points in their bid for survival.

Cunha scored 10 minutes before half-time, just moments after the Cherries saw Illia Zabarnyi dismissed for what was deemed a reckless challenge on Rayan Ait-Nouri.

The win puts Wolves five points clear of the drop zone, while Bournemouth remain in sixth.

Two of Wolves’ relegation rivals suffered heavy defeats. Ipswich fell to a 4-1 loss at home to Tottenham, while bottom side Southampton were thumped 4-0 by Brighton.

Brennan Johnson bagged an early brace for Spurs before Omari Hutchinson halved the deficit before half-time.

But second-half goals from Djed Spence and Dejan Kulusevski secured the points for Ange Postecoglou’s men.

Joao Pedro, Georginio Rutter, Kaoru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood found the net for Brighton, who move up to eighth.

The Saints are now 14 points from safety and look almost certain to be playing Championship football next term.

The clash between Fulham and Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage saw the visitors come away with a 2-0 victory.

An own goal from former Palace player Joachin Andersen gave the Eagles the lead before Daniel Munoz doubled their advantage shortly after Jean-Philipe Mateta’s goal was ruled out for offside.
