Arsenal to move for Benedetti?

Arsenal are expected to make a formal move for Palmeiras centre-back Luiz Benedetti in January, according to Caught Offside.

The Gunners made eight signings during the summer transfer window. This included Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie to bolster the central defence.

Arsenal continue to be linked with centre-backs and it is claimed that they are ready to make a formal move for Benedetti after failing with an approach this summer.

The Gunners were willing to pay €10 million for the 19-year-old, but Palmeiras were reluctant to sanction his sale for anything less than €15 million.

Barcelona were also interested in the highly-rated defender, but they were likewise reluctant to meet the demands of the Brazilian heavyweights.

Both clubs continue to monitor the teenager and it remains to be seen whether Arsenal or Barcelona purchase him at the turn of the year.

Benedetti has already opened the door for a move to Europe. He is keen to follow the footsteps of Vitor Reis, who joined Manchester City last winter.
