Are You Dressing for the Woman You Were—Or the Woman You’re Becoming? — Autum Love

Here’s something I’ve been thinking about lately—and if you’re in your 30s (or even your late 20s), you might be feeling it too:

Sometimes we’re not stuck in life—we’re stuck in our closet.

Like, you ever prayed for the job you have now, but suddenly you hate getting dressed for it? You throw on a graphic tee or the same jeans every week, not because you don’t care, but because something about your wardrobe just… doesn’t match the version of you you’re stepping into.

Or maybe you’re shopping for clothes that feel “safe”—nothing too bold, nothing too different. Because the truth is, you’re still dressing for the life you have, not the one you want.

I’ve been there.

There was a moment recently when I realized: my business is thriving, we’re in growth mode, but I was showing up to meetings, calls, and content days in clothes that didn’t make me feel confident. And that lack of confidence wasn’t coming from my skills—it was coming from how I saw myself.

Our wardrobes often hold onto the past—pieces from a relationship we’ve moved on from, an old job, a time when our lives looked completely different. And we keep them because they’re familiar. But what if we stopped letting style reflect where we’ve been and started letting it lead us into where we’re going?

Also I created this checklist for you 30 Wardrobe Essentials that every woman in her 30s must own. You can download it here.

1. The Closet Clutter We Don’t Talk About

Sometimes it’s not the physical space in our closet that overwhelms us—it’s the emotional baggage. You know the dress you haven’t worn since that breakup? Or those jeans you keep “just in case” you lose the weight? That’s not style—that’s stagnancy.

Let go of pieces that no longer serve you. Not just because they don’t fit, but because they represent a version of you you’re not anymore. Create space for the woman you are becoming.
