I’m shocked they are ending And Just Like That as it was getting good, unpacking its most promising stories. Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw has been navigating life with Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) in season 3. The couple experiences a series of romance hurdles after they agree to separate at the end of And Just Like That season 2.
Carrie and Aidan ultimately break up in And Just Like That season 3, with the revival fleshing out their romance, proving for once and for all that Carrie’s Sex and the City love interest wasn’t meant to be. I’m glad And Just Like That rewrote Carrie’s most formative romances. Still, I wish Carrie’s story would continue after season 3.

Whatever happens in the next two episodes of And Just Like That will be the last of Carrie Bradshaw’s story. Sex and the City and its revival show’s showrunner, Michael Patrick King, announced in a statement that And Just Like That season 3 would be the final season.
The news came as a shock to Sex and the City fans. Despite And Just Like That ending on a high note with a two-part series finale, it’s sad to hear the news. Sex and the City’s revival wasn’t always the best show, far from it, but its audience was curious to watch Carrie and her friends regardless.
HBO’s decision not to continue the series stemmed solely from its creators. King said in his statement that he and Sarah Jessica Parker realized the conclusion of And Just Like That season 3 marked a fitting stopping point. The creator decided to end the show organically, rather than letting it fizzle out, which would typically be a good thing.

The news is frustrating, though, because the show is finally improving. And Just Like That season 3’s premiere garnered the revival’s first certified fresh Rotten Tomatoes score, though the rating has declined. The first two seasons of And Just Like That were divisive, as they tried to rewrite Sex and the City without adequately evoking the original series.
Although Sex and the City‘s characters were in a different era in their lives, making it impossible to replicate the original, there was still room for improvement. And Just Like That season 3 was making progress. With the help of characters like Samantha Jones’ replacement, Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury), And Just Like That felt more like its predecessor in season 3.
And Just Like That season 3 also brought back Aidan Shaw. Though the revival proved that Carrie and Aidan’s romance was always doomed, it was interesting to return a character from Carrie’s past, one with such an established history, and it was worth watching to see how Carrie and Aidan interacted after all these years of not dating each other.
Characters like Charlotte (Kristin Davis) indeed lacked development. However, other central characters, like Carrie, Seema, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Anthony (Mario Cantone), were finally getting their best stories. The first few chapters were dedicated to moving beyond their pasts, and they could finally branch out in And Just Like That season 3.
Carrie was finally able to pursue a new romance after Aidan and Mr. Big (Chris Noth), hitting it off with Duncan (Jonathan Cake). Miranda and Seema, too, were having some of their most fulfilling relationships, with Joy (Dolly Wells) and Adam Karma (Logan Marshall-Green) nicely rounding out And Just Like That’s cast of love interests.
Can Sex And The City’s Characters Ever Come Back?

With things picking up, it’s worth considering if characters from And Just Like That can ever get together again to tell new stories. The most revealing news about the future of the franchise is the statements from the show’s most prominent creators, Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker.
We can expect the two-part finale of And Just Like That to not only be the end of the revival show, but possibly the end of Sex and the City.

Sarah Jessica Parker also made a statement on her Instagram account, a montage of videos of her iconic Carrie Bradshaw character, with a statement from the actor accompanying it. The statement, which read like a poem, seemed to be a goodbye. Still, SJP spoke of completing the chapter, not parting with Carrie Bradshaw entirely.
With such iconic characters, perhaps one shouldn’t count out another Sex and the City revival. For now, though, there won’t be any new developments for Carrie or her friends anytime soon. That’s less than fabulous, especially considering Carrie Bradshaw is entering a new era, with And Just Like That finally getting good.
