All four Avengers: Doomsday trailers have now been made available officially by Marvel Studios, with the last one now online. The unusual marketing play has kept people discussing the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie for weeks, with conversations about what was shown and what did or did not work remaining consistent.
The first trailer confirmed Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers, while the second revealed the first look at Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. The third teaser brought Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, and James Marsden’s Cyclops into the picture. The final trailer puts the focus on Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Namor (Tenoch Huerta), and The Thing (Ebon-Moss Bachrach).
Despite all the trailers being similar in length, the excitement that each generated is not equal. With different fan-favorite characters being spotlighted and individual tones accompanying the footage, the enjoyment one has with each will vary depending on your specific interests. So, let’s rank the Avengers: Doomsday trailers from worst to best.
4
Steve Rogers’ Avengers: Doomsday Trailer
As a massive Captain America/Steve Rogers fan, it pains me to put his trailer at the bottom of this ranking, but it also was not much of a debate in my mind. In terms of the footage that is shown, it’s the least exciting, with lots of establishing shots of Steve riding his motorcycle, parking it, and walking into his and Peggy Carter’s home.
The only really cool parts of the trailer is the official confirmation that Chris Evans is reprising his iconic role and that Steve Rogers has a son now. Both aspects will have significant ramifications on Doomsday, but there’s only so much enthusiasm that can be created by these moments.
It’s also the only trailer that has zero dialogue, which hurts the teaser’s ability to really set the mood and give some insight into Steve’s mindset during this next adventure. For those reasons, the Steve trailer is certainly the worst that Doomsday‘s marketing ploy produced.

The Wakandans & Fantastic Four Avengers: Doomsday Trailer
The fourth Doomsday trailer comes in third thanks to a few different qualities. For starters, it has the only glimpse at a new crossover of MCU characters as Ben Grimm meets M’Baku. The collision of Wakanda and the Fantastic Four is more than enough to generate some more anticipation as these two major Marvel worlds intersect for the first time.
It also does a good job of creating intrigue around the state of Namor and the Talokanil. Rather than being shown in their aquatic kingdom, they are strangely seen in a desert environment. Whether this is a desolate version of Talokan after an encounter with Doctor Doom, an alternate universe, or something else is unclear, but the possibilities are fascinating.
The Wakanda and Fantastic Four Doomsday trailer also gains points for showing off Shuri, M’Baku, and Namor’s new costumes, confirming the presence of Namora, and using Shuri’s dialogue to tease the danger at hand. The slightly comedic conclusion with M’Baku and Ben’s interaction is a bit strange, but that’s the only real fault with this one.

Thor’s Avengers: Doomsday Trailer
One of the many things made clear by Thor’s Doomsday trailer is that its great to have the god of thunder back under the direction of the Russo brothers. The scenes themselves aren’t all that exciting, but the footage and dialogue strike an incredible tone, as Thor begs for protection ahead of his next fight.
The return of serious Thor after the overly goofy portrayal in Thor: Love and Thunder is tremendous. In just over a minute of footage, Hemsworth reminds everyone of how commanding he can be in this role. The sense of desperation and tragedy in his performance is reminiscent of the tone struck with Thor in Infinity War, and he even has a similar costume and Stormbreaker to add to those comparisons.
This is good enough to have a top spot on a ranking of Doomsday’s trailers, even if I’m sticking it in second place. As great as it is to see Thor like this again and gain a sense of how much fear Doom has already put in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, this glimpse at Hemsworth’s return falls just behind the most hyped piece of marketing Marvel has done for the movie so far.

The X-Men Avengers: Doomsday Trailer
Nostalgia can be a powerful thing, and that’s proven true once again with the X-Men Doomsday trailer. There is just something incredibly special about seeing Professor X, Magneto, and Cyclops again after so many years with the promise that the X-Men will have a major role to play in the upcoming MCU event film.
Since we last saw Stewart as Charles Xavier just four years ago, it’s the presence of McKellen’s Erik Lehnsherr and Marsden’s Scott Summers that does a lot of the heavy lifting here. Magneto’s dialogue about death coming for us all is an incredible tone setter for the movie. It’s simply great to hear McKellen delivering lines for his iconic character once more.
This trailer also gains favor thanks to the money shot of Cyclops firing a massive optic blast into the sky. These teasers have no action in them other than this quick moment, so this glimpse really stands out among the rest.
Seeing Marsden get a moment like this — wearing Cyclops’ iconic X-Men suit with a Sentinel walking behind him among a destroyed X-Mansion — is arguably already the best scene he’s been part of. It’s a perfect showing of how the MCU can do Scott justice after so many frustrating decisions made in the X-Men films.
The irony of the best Avengers: Doomsday trailer starring characters the MCU isn’t responsible for is not lost on me. But, I don’t think I’m alone in believing this is the best teaser of the four and one of the more exciting bits of marketing Marvel Studios has produced in a while.
