Alan Ritchson’s Movie Slate May Delay Future Reacher Seasons on Prime Video

Reacher, Prime Video’s hit action thriller series with an outstanding 96% Rotten Tomatoes score, faces a major conundrum about the future of its franchise surrounding its star actor, Alan Ritchson.

Ritchson, who rose to prominence in the 2010s from TV shows like Blue Mountain State and movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, has reached new heights in Hollywood due to the massive streaming popularity and critical acclaim of Reacher. That said, the Prime Video show that made him a global superstar could be taking a backseat in the years to come.

Ritchson’s Upcoming Movie Slate Could Delay Future Reacher Seasons

Ritchson already has three seasons of Reacher under his belt, with a fourth on the way, which will be an adaptation of the Lee Child novel Gone Tomorrow. This rapid rate of critically acclaimed seasons has given Reacher fans lots of entertaining content and plenty to talk about over the last few years, but it’s a hot streak that’s subject to eventually changing.

Ritchson is currently attached to star in seven feature films, most of them action movies, by the end of the decade. That type of Hollywood workload is bound to pump the brakes on the annual rollout of new Reacher seasons, potentially as soon as Reacher season 4 releases next year.

With dozens of published novels to source from, Reacher is the type of series that could feasibly run for a double-digit number of seasons. The biggest question about Reacher’s future will be whether Ritchson’s interest in returning to his iconic character remains as high as it was when season 1 premiered in 2022.

Prime Video’s Neagley Spinoff Suggests A Reacher Season 5 Pushback

Maria Sten as Frances Neagley in Reacher Season 2

Prime Video’s Neagley spinoff, starring Maria Sten, one of the few recurring cast members in Reacher, is being developed alongside Reacher in order to fill the gap between annual seasons. Unfortunately, that gap between Reacher seasons may just become wider so that Ritchson can take on more exciting roles on the big screen.

This Reacher problem is bittersweet for everyone involved since it’s the direct result of Ritchson’s great work and Prime Video’s streaming success with the series. It will be fantastic to watch Ritchson potentially become a household Hollywood name on big screens around the world like Schwarzenegger and Stallone before him.

For now, Reacher’s lean annual release slate remains intact, and odds are Amazon will be very convincing in their attempts to keep Ritchson interested in Reacher’s continued expansion. Like all fantastic series, Reacher will have to come to an end eventually, but hopefully not before most of Lee Child’s thrilling novels are given the definitive TV adaptations.
