A theory about Ahsoka season 2 seemingly reveals the origin story of Star Wars’ most mysterious villain. While Star Wars‘ Sith Lords pose the biggest danger to the galaxy, there are many villains linked to other organizations. Be it the regular officers of the Empire, including Ahsoka‘s Grand Admiral Thrawn himself, or the bounty hunters of the galaxy’s underworld, there is no shortage of antagonists in the franchise. In Ahsoka season 2’s trailer, several of these villains are teased.

Of course, Thrawn remains the biggest threat to Star Wars’ New Republic as he seeks to reinstate the Empire. However, there are a great many more dangerous enemies that will be highlighted in the show. The Nightsisters are one such group of enemies, as they have now allied themselves with Thrawn. Another, though, is more interesting, as it has been confirmed to be one from Ahsoka’s past. In more Star Wars: The Clone Wars flashbacks, Ahsoka season 2 will include a mysterious lightsaber-wielding villain whom the titular character and Anakin Skywalker once faced.

Not only will this allow for a classic Star Wars lightsaber battle starring Hayden Christensen, but it could also reveal a mysterious villain’s backstory, should a specific theory be revealed. The theory in question claims that this stranger is actually Marrok, the Inquisitor who first appeared in Ahsoka season 1 as an avatar of Morgan Elsbeth. As a lightsaber-wielder during the Clone Wars, it is clear that whoever this warrior is is neither Sith nor Jedi. This is often shown to be the ideal grey area for an Inquisitor, so as not to threaten the Sith but to be capable of killing surviving Jedi.

If this warrior gives Anakin and Ahsoka a tough time, as the trailer for Ahsoka season 2 seems to indicate, it would make sense for the former to remember these skills after becoming Darth Vader and forming the Inquisitorius. Marrok is also known as the First Brother; this name also makes sense if Anakin met him before anyone else in the Jedi-hunting group. Finally, Marrok being introduced in a Clone Wars flashback would tie things nicely to Ahsoka’s New Republic story, given he debuted, in release order, in the first season of her show.

Marrok Has Become One Of Star Wars’ Most Intriguing Villains

Since debuting in Ahsoka season 1, Marrok has become one of the most interesting villains in the Star Wars franchise. The sheer number of theories centering on him is proof of this, with the first among them being that he was actually Ezra Bridger. Of course, this turned out to be false, with many being disappointed that he was an animated husk created by Morgan Elsbeth. However, Marrok then appeared in Tales of the Empire and Maul: Shadow Lord as a real being, making him intriguing once again.

Star Wars has yet to reveal exactly what or who Marrok is; was he always an animated body controlled by Morgan Elsbeth, or was he once a normal man who was simply used as an avatar by the Nightsister? Maul: Shadow Lord then made him more threatening than ever, leading to deeper questions about his abilities and who he really is under the mask. If Ahsoka season 2 can answer that question by making Marrok a mysterious, morally-gray lightsaber-wielder during the Clone Wars, he would continue to be one of Star Wars’ most intriguing antagonists.

Ahsoka’s Clone Wars Flashbacks Can Reveal A Lot About Season 2’s Story

Beyond a possible backstory for Marrok, Ahsoka season 2’s flashbacks to the Clone Wars can reveal a lot more concerning the show’s ongoing story. For instance, it is clear that Baylan Skoll and his search for a mysterious power on Peridea will be a big focus of Ahsoka season 2. In the first season, Baylan was revealed as a Jedi who knew Anakin, possibly leading to a flashback in which the two come face-to-face.

Another big Ahsoka theory is that Baylan’s plan links to the Mortis Gods, who were first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Anakin and Ahsoka had a big journey involving the Mortis Gods, meaning flashbacks to the latter show could have more to do with these fascinating deities. Overall, the flashbacks of Ahsoka season 2 open up a world of possibilities, with one of them being the reveal of exactly who, or what, Marrok once was.
