One of the biggest Sci-Fi franchises of all time has landed in a new streaming home with its brilliant 3-part reboot. Sci-Fi is and has been one of the most popular genres for a long time. Over the years, several unique universes have been brought to the big screen, with some hit franchises making the most of what the different mediums have to offer. While some sci-fi franchises started out in theaters before they ended up developing TV shows to flesh out their universes, like Star Wars, others took their first steps on TV before moving to the big screen.

Star Trek is one of such iconic sci-fi franchises to have first started on TV before expanding its scope to theaters. The franchise dates back to 1966 with the release of Star Trek: The Original Series, which followed the adventures of the crew on the USS Enterprise, led by William Shatner’s Captain James T. Kirk. Many decades later, the franchise was rebooted as a film series, with a Star Trek trilogy brought to life by J. J. Abrams. Now, 2009’s Star Trek, 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, and 2016’s Star Trek Beyond have arrived on Peacock as of September 1.

Star Trek’s Reboot Trilogy Is Massively Underrated

Notably, audiences tend to flock to the original timeline of the franchise, following the adventures of Shatner’s Kirk and his crew. However, the modern Star Trek movies are far more enjoyable than most give them credit. Abrams perfectly injected the franchise with the heavy dose of action that one cannot find in the original series, all while still maintaining Star Trek’s DNA of exploration of the unknown. Together, the Kelvin Timeline trilogy, named after the incident with a time-traveling spaceship that led to the destruction of the USS Kelvin and the death of George Kirk, grossed $1.19 billion.

While that is a respectable sum, it is still barely above Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‘s $1.077 billion total, which was the lowest for the Star Wars sequel trilogy. That just goes to show how underrated the modern Star Trek movies are. Additionally, they have some of the best actors in the entire Star Trek franchise, counting both the old projects and the new wave of Star Trek TV shows. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaña, Simon Pegg, Winona Ryder, Chris Hemsworth, Victor Garber, Benedict Cumberbatch, Idris Elba, and many more helped make the recent Star Trek movies memorable sci-fi adventures.

Star Trek’s Kelvin Timeline Trilogy Comes To Peacock At The Perfect Time

The Star Trek Kelvin Timeline trilogy is now available on Peacock right before one of the biggest days ever for the space opera franchise. After all, on September 8, when Star Trek Day is celebrated, as it was on that date that the first episode of the original Star Trek series aired on TV, the sci-fi franchise will celebrate its 60th anniversary. As such, fans of the franchise will now have one week to marathon all three modern Star Trek movies on Peacock before Star Trek Day, which could hopefully include an announcement of where the franchise might be headed on the big screen.
