Getting an open-world game right is always tricky. You have to find the right balance between it being big but too empty or too small and cramped, all whilst offering unique biomes, exciting content, and visuals that will encourage the player to want to explore every inch of the map. Whilst many games have got this wrong, a lot have got it right, and one such example is a 10/10 masterpiece that players can now download for absolutely nothing this September.

Announced during CD Projekt RED’s latest update, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered will be launching on 29 September. As a new-and-improved version of the beloved 2015 RPG, the remaster arrives alongside “a slew of upgrades and enhancements to visuals, performance, gameplay, and more when it launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.” Not only that, but players who already own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on their chosen platform will gain access to the remaster at no extra cost.

Whilst our first look at the upcoming DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was also shown during the recent Gamescom Opening Night Live, it was the previous DLCs that caught our attention more: Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone. That is because, to help celebrate all of the exciting content coming to The Witcher universe over the next few years, these two DLCs will be completely free to download and enjoy.

“As an additional surprise for players, all current owners of The Witcher 3 will today gain access to its original two expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine — for free,” the official blog post reads. “Announced on stage by Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley, players yet to experience the critically acclaimed expansions can now do so ahead of Remastered’s launch in September.”

With both DLCs meeting critical acclaim when they launched back in 2015 and 2016 respectively, this will be the perfect time to get up-to-date with the story ahead of the September remaster, Songs of the Past DLC, and perhaps most importantly, the arrival of The Witcher 4 which is expected to launch some time in 2028.

By grabbing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt alongside Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone, you will be able to unlock over 175 hours of epic gameplay set across a stunning open-world.
