Prime Video's New Reboot Of Iconic 37-Year-Old Series Officially Releases Next Month

Prime Video’s new reboot of an iconic 37-year-old series, American Gladiators, officially releases next month.

The competition series originally aired weekly in syndication from 1989 to 1996, featuring amateur athletes competing against one another and taking on the show’s resident “gladiators” in various tests of strength and agility. The show was rebooted for two seasons on NBC, both of which were aired in 2008, hosted by Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali. Now, it’s been rebooted once again.

Today, Prime Video announced that American Gladiators will premiere on Friday, April 17, with the first three episodes debuting on that date, followed by the next three episodes releasing on April 24, and the final four episodes on May 1. The official key art was also unveiled:

Hosted by WWE SmackDown wrestler Mike “The Miz” Mizanin and Rocsi Diaz, each episode of Prime Video’s American Gladiators will bring together amateur male and female contenders from around the United States as they enter the Arena to challenge 16 formidable new American Gladiators.

They will compete in classic events like Joust, Powerball, Hang Tough, and The Wall, along with intense new challenges such as The Ring and Collision, all of which test strength, strategy, and determination. In the end, just one man and one woman will prevail, win $100,000, and take home the title of American Gladiator Champion.

Prime Video’s American Gladiators is created by Johnny C. Ferraro, who serves as executive producer alongside showrunner Daniel Calin, Barry Poznick, Susan Janis-Mashayekhi, Sarah Happel Jackson, and Adam Cooper. The series is directed by Ramy Romany.
