Liverpool have confirmed that they’ve triggered the option to extend the contract of Alisson Becker for another year, meaning the Brazilian goalkeeper is now tied to the Merseysiders until 2027, and according to Teamtalk, the development has prompted several Premier League clubs to enquire about the availability of Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Mamardashvili joined Liverpool from Valencia initially in the summer of 2024, but the terms of the deal included a loan back to the La Liga side for the first season. Since arriving to Anfield last year, the 25-year-old Georgia international has been playing backup to Alisson, hoping to take the No. 1 spot when the 33-year-old leaves. That won’t happen now until the end of 2026-27, and it seems other clubs believe they can take advantage of the situation and lure Mamardashvili away.
Mamardashvili has only stood between the posts on 12 occasions in all competitions this season. Five of those came in the Premier League and five in the Champions League when Alisson was out with a hamstring injury from the end of September to late November, and in the first leg of Liverpool’s Champi0ns League round-of-16 clash with Galatasaray last week.
From their side, Liverpool are said to be keeping their options open.
