Chelsea wanted Lucas Bergvall

Chelsea made a shock approach to sign Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall during the winter transfer window, according to journalist David Ornstein.

The Blues explored the possibility of landing a new midfielder this winter. Juventus’ Douglas Luiz was on the radar, but he chose to return to Aston Villa on loan after his unsuccessful short-term stint at Nottingham Forest.

Ornstein has now revealed that Bergvall was another player on the Blues’ radar amid his reduced role at Spurs, but the north London giants made it clear that they had no plans of parting ways with the highly-rated Swede.

Bergvall, who is currently nursing an ankle sprain, has had a tough second season at Spurs, but the club are still aware of his immense potential and won’t contemplate his departure in the next transfer window either.

Chelsea did not pursue an alternative in the transfer market, but they are expected to recruit a marquee midfielder signing for the 2026/27 season.
