Before they return to the big screen for a Supernova-level event in 2027, Godzilla and Kong will be joining forces once again for the Monsterverse’s 2026 return.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 is set to pick up right from the season 1 finale, in which Anna Sawai’s Cate Randa, Mari Yamamoto’s Keiko and Kiersey Clemons’ May narrowly escaped Axis Mundi and arrived on Skull Island two years later. The season is expected to follow the group as they learn more about the history of Skull Island and the titular agency, while also dealing with the threat of the new Titan, a bioluminescent threat currently named Titan X.
Now, with just a few weeks remaining until its premiere, Apple TV has released the official Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 trailer. The video really hypes up the intense battle to come from Titan X’s arrival in the world, showcasing a good amount of its destruction and the various human characters grappling with the feeling they unleashed it from Axis Mundi, requiring the help of Godzilla and Kong to stop it before it’s too late. Check out the trailer below:
While the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 trailer more or less expands on the first footage for the show’s return, it does offer a few key insights into what’s to come. For starters, it spotlights just how much of Skull Island the new season is going to explore, particularly the mass grave seen in Kong: Skull Island that housed the dangerous Skullcrawlers, potentially hinting at their return in the show. Additionally, the trailer seems to point to the Mother Longlegs creature from Kong: Skull Island returning as May is nearly carried up into the trees by some kind of being.
One of the other biggest points of note in the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 trailer is that Titan X appears to be involved in both the present day timeline and the 1950s-era one with Wyatt Russell’s Lee Shaw. The actual creature itself continues to be unidentified properly, though with further looks at its octopus-like design and destructive nature, this could affirm the theories of the new villain being that of Na Kika, particularly as the characters describe it as a type of god over other sea creatures.
All Titans In The Monsterverse: From Monarch To Godzilla x Kong
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire did its part to grow Legendary’s Monsterverse, which is brimming with Titans across all its movies and shows.
Interestingly, the trailer also seems to point to Titan X fighting with Kong on Skull Island at some point in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2. With the footage indicating that the new entity comes from Axis Mundi, this would make sense for why it appears on the island, as the rift opening there is what Cate, Keiko and May used to return to the main world. What’s currently unclear is whether this will be a climactic battle between the pair or take place early in the season.
The last major takeaway from the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 trailer is its teasing of Godzilla and Kong teaming up to fight Titan X. While there have been two movies, and the upcoming Supernova, seeing their teaming up, the Apple TV series would mark the first official pairing of them in the Monsterverse’s timeline, given season 2 is expected to be set around 2017-18, while Godzilla x Kong was set in 2024. Considering the carnage that came from their first interactions to determine the ultimate King of the Monsters, the Monsterverse show’s return could bring with it even more destruction.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 premieres on Apple TV on February 27.
