Sterling ends unhappy Chelsea stay

Raheem Sterling has left Chelsea by mutual consent to become a free agent.

The 31-year-old has not played a single minute of football all season and spent last season on loan with Arsenal.

He has been training alone this season and has been kept apart from the rest of the first team, arriving and leaving at a different time to the squad and using a different building.

A club statement said: “Raheem Sterling has today departed Chelsea Football Club by mutual agreement, bringing to an end three-and-a-half seasons as our player, having signed in the summer of 2022 when he was transferred from Manchester City.

“We thank Raheem for the contribution he made while a Chelsea player and wish him well for the next stage in his career.”

The former England forward last played for Chelsea in May 2024, when he scored his last Premier League goal against Bournemouth.

Sterling, whose deal was due to run for 18 months and was worth around £325,000 per week was linked with a departure over the summer after being frozen out.

He can join a club outside of the transfer window as a free agent.

Sterling has won the Premier League four times with Manchester City and has 82 caps for England.
