Speaking at an ICC event in Mumbai, Shastri picked Abhishek Sharma as the one to watch, underlining the left hander’s confidence and destructive ability at the top of the order.

Shastri’s comments came shortly after Abhishek’s breathtaking display against New Zealand in Nagpur, where the young opener smashed 84 off just 35 balls. Batting alongside India skipper Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek helped add 99 runs in only 47 deliveries, laying the foundation for India’s towering total of 238.

“Abhishek, without a shadow of a doubt. (He’s the) No. 1 T20 batsman in the world (and is) in a rich vein of form. Last evening (on Wednesday), he took the game away from New Zealand. You’ve got to watch out for him because his confidence level is high. He’ll be backed by the home crowd, and if he takes off, it means India takes off,” said Shastri.
