Keira Knightley’s 6-Part Netflix Thriller Is the Perfect Holiday Binge

Keira Knightley stars in a gripping 6-part Netflix thriller series that also serves as the perfect hidden gem binge-watch for Christmas week viewers. If you’re looking for something to watch this week that blends thrilling action and holiday cheer, you’ve come to the right place.

Apart from being wildly binge-worthy, this critically acclaimed series earned a Certified Fresh 92% Rotten Tomatoes score and has been renewed for a second season on Netflix. What’s more, it features Knightley in her first-ever lead role in a Netflix series, making it essential viewing for all her fans.

Black Doves Is A Must-Watch Spy Thriller On Netflix

Firstly, Black Doves is just a great Netflix spy thriller, hands down. While it certainly isn’t the most straightforward or traditional example of the genre, it blends several elements and narrative styles to tell a truly one-of-a-kind story over 6 fast-paced episodes.

Knightley plays Helen Webb in Black Doves, an undercover spy who is part of the secret women-only agency known as the Black Doves. Helen has been on assignment for years as a public figure in London and the wife of the British Defense Secretary. After her hidden lover is killed, Helen is thrown back into the world of espionage to discover the truth about his death.

Knightley is joined by co-star and Emmy winner Ben Whishaw, who in many ways serves as a near co-protagonist to Helen as the veteran yet troubled assassin Sam Young. Whishaw is a natural choice for the England-based spy thriller, considering he played Q in the final three Daniel Craig James Bond movies.

Black Doves Is Surprisingly Perfect For The Holidays

Black Doves may be a great, even innovative, Netflix spy thriller, but what does any of this have to do with the holidays? Actually, a lot, since Black Doves is set mostly during Christmastime in London, adding a festive flair to the celebrated series that will keep viewers in the holiday spirit, making it perfect to binge-watch this week.

Black Doves isn’t entirely pedal to the metal throughout its six episodes. Like a drama series, it explores buried avenues of several characters’ backstories, some traumatic, that humanize these spy characters when, in most series of its kind, they are basically vehicles for the plot. On top of that, the series is stylish, with some truly unforgettable action and fight scenes.

All things considered, Black Doves isn’t what you would call a “family-friendly” show, given its TV-MA rating and variety of violent action scenes. That said, if you don’t have to worry about that, I could not recommend a better holiday-themed yet highly entertaining recent Netflix series than Black Doves right now – I know I’ll be watching this Christmas.
