Skull Island At Global Box Office

James Gunn’s Superman movie continues to rise at the worldwide box office, with the DC Universe film now surpassing two major Kong films. The DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate has gotten off to a major start in 2025 with the Superman movie, featuring David Corenswet as the newest Man of Steel.

From the many positive Superman movie reviews to the DCU installment currently being the highest-grossing superhero film of 2025, Krypton’s last son has made a triumphant return to the big screen. As Superman has been in theaters for over a month, the DCU movie’s box office results are continuing to roll in.

As of Tuesday, August 12, Gunn’s Superman has now grossed $581 million at the worldwide box office, with $332.3 million being domestically, while $248.7 million is from the international market. According to The Numbers, the film has now surpassed two installments in Warner Bros.’s MonsterVerse franchise, specifically Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Kong: Skull Island.

What The Superman Box Office Update Means

While it remains to be seen if the Superman movie will reach $600 million for its entire box office run, Gunn’s DCU film is emerging as a success for multiple reasons. For DC Studios, as past DC films have struggled in the last few years, Superman is the win that the DCU needed, given how it will be instrumental to the DCU franchise going forward.

Recently, Gunn’s Superman box office comments about the expectations from DC Studios in the film’s box office trajectory also serve as a crucial reminder that the DCU has only just begun. If future DCU films have similar commercial and critical successes, the box office numbers could be higher in the future, including Superman sequels.

Superman has also, as of 2025, become the highest-grossing film for the DC hero domestically. As Gunn’s Superman is now also becoming one of Warner Bros.’s biggest hits on their highest-grossing charts of all time, it will hopefully mean that future DCU releases will emerge with similar success.

Seeing how Superman continues to resonate with the audience, it will be exciting to see where DC Studios goes next with the Man of Tomorrow. After the Superman movie ending, it has been revealed that Gunn is working on another Super-Family installment, which Clark Kent would more than likely be in.

As Superman’s VOD release is coming up, time will tell how the film’s box office numbers will turn out for the DCU installment. But as of right now, with the numbers it has now, Gunn’s hard work on Superman is paying off for DC Studios.
