Spider-Man’s Iconic Spidey Sense Has a Glaring Weakness That Only Deadpool Has Figured Out

Warning: Spoilers for Deadpool #11!Marvel’s most unexpected hero in Deadpool found the best way to beat Spider-Man’s Spidey Sense. Whether Peter Parker, Miles Morales, or any other Spider Family member, Spidey Sense proves to be the best ability in their arsenal. Whenever danger is within an arm’s reach, Spidey Sense tingles in the knick of time to trigger its user to evade whatever’s coming at them, even when they’re not yet certain what’s incoming.

However, Deadpool #11 by Cody Ziglar, Andre Di Vito, Guru Efx, and VC’s Joe Sabino reveals that the Merc with a Mouth has the perfect solution for Spider-Man’s Spidey Sense: “timing.” That’s right, according to Deadpool, all it takes is perfect timing to spite Spider-Man’s best ability – and it works.

As much as it sounds like an oversimplification, Deadpool’s theory works with flying colors. The fact that Deadpool comes up with a surprisingly foolproof strategy to begin with speaks to his underrated skill as a marksman and as a strategist that often goes overlooked due to his nonstop bevy of jokes.

Deadpool Can Beat Spider-Man With Just “Timing”

He Shoots the Wrong Spider-Man, But His Pinpoint Accuracy Proves Key

At this point in time, Deadpool is running a hitman operation alongside his daughter Ellie – a.k.a. the new Deadpool – and Taskamaster, Ellie’s coach and practically her second father who Deadpool raises her with. Unfortunately, business is not booming, and with there a need for food to be on the table and bills needing to be paid, Deadpool accepts a drastic job: killing Spider-Man. Though she fights against the proposal, his daughter begrudgingly goes along with it, as they scout who they think is Miles Morales.

Miles Morales Showcases New Form of Spider-Sense as Spider-Man’s Powers Evolve

By working through his trauma in therapy, Miles has not only regained his Spider-Man powers, he’s evolved them beyond what even Peter Parker can do.

As it turns out, the culprit swinging from web to web was actually Miles’ clone brother, Shift, but Deadpool nonetheless shoots, and regardless of who he shoots, Deadpool’s sentiment still applies. Even as a broken clone, his Spidey Sense works the same as Miles and Peter’s. One can assume that if Deadpool had shot his intended target, then the same result would apply as far as a Spider-Man getting clipped out of the sky before he knows what hit him.

What Does This Tell Readers About Spider-Man’s Spidey Sense?

Spidey Sense is Not as Instantaneous as One May Assume It To Be

Miles Morales Spider-Man Spidey Sense detects Venom

Some audiences think that Spider-Man’s Spidey Sense works like an instant trigger, as if he is alerted to danger the moment it presents itself and immediately dodges out of the way before it arrives. This is an understandable assumption, as audiences have seen people shoot guns at both Spideys all the time, and he dodges them effortlessly every time. Unlike the common goon, Deadpool doesn’t fire aimlessly at Shift. He waits, he’s patient, he picks his target, and waits for just the right moment to fire. The fact that it works shows how Spidey Sense doesn’t always work like an instantaneous trigger.

In every depiction of Spidey Sense, there is always a split second of time in which Spider-Man does not know what kind of danger is afoot or is to shocked to process what kind of danger is present. Deadpool takes advantage of that split second delay.

Spidey Sense does not always perfectly tell Spider-Man exactly why and how to get out of the way of danger. In a scenario where Miles was in this situation instead, or even Peter, he could still be thrown off his game during combat with the right timing. What Does This Moment Say About Deadpool?

Jokes or Not Jokes, Deadpool Should Not Be Underestimated

Taskmaster tells Wade Wilson he must learn to be a professional in Cable and Deadpool #36

Some readers may be shocked to see how savvy Deadpool is here, but this would be the first time he’s been portrayed as an expert in his craft. One prime example of Deadpool’s often-underestimated skill-level comes in Cable and Deadpool #36, where Deadpool is trying to get in touch with Taskmaster, long before they were ever as friendly with each other as they are in the current Marvel comics now that Ellie is in the mix. After a string of tragedies and bad luck, Deadpool hopes that beating up Taskmaster in public would help restore his faltering reputation.

Cable & Deadpool (2004) #36 was written by Fabian Nicieza, penciled by Reilly Brown, inked by Jeremy Freeman, colored by Gotham, and lettered by Dave Sharpe.

Wade gets more than he asks for when he fights Taskmaster with his hands tied, but miraculously, Deadpool is still able to defeat Taskmaster by coming up with a strategy on the spot. He takes advantage of a tsunami of grain in the middle of a desert to blind Taskmaster’s vision, allowing Wade to blindside him from behind. Taskmaster gives Deadpool his props after their fight, admitting how good he is, even if Deadpool’s bad rep doesn’t improve after the bout. As Taskmaster tells him, his rep remains bad because no one takes him seriously.

Everyone sees Deadpool’s jokes before they see Deadpool.

That’s why Deadpool getting the jump on Spider-Man is so unexpected for readers. He’s an expert assassin with years of experience, but unlike most assassins praised as the best in the Marvel Universe, Deadpool doesn’t present himself as a professional. Neither his contemporaries nor the viewing audience take him seriously. Everyone sees Deadpool’s jokes before they see Deadpool. Comedy is Deadpool’s biggest, most definitive trait, but it’s proving to be a blessing and a curse in-universe and real life. It’s forced readers and characters to underestimate Deadpool, and not even beating Spider-Man’s best ability can change that.

Deadpool #11 is on sale now from Marvel.
