India Women produced a dominant all-round performance to beat Sri Lanka Women by 147 runs and win the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The Women in Blue put together an outstanding display at the Aichi Prefectural Korogi Sports Park, controlling the contest with both bat and ball to retain their continental crown.

India made a flying start after winning the toss and choosing to bat, with the opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma putting Sri Lanka’s bowlers under immediate pressure. The batting dominance continued throughout the innings as India finished on 216/3 from their 20 overs. Sri Lanka faced a daunting chase and needed a strong start to stay in the contest. However, India’s bowlers quickly took control, with Deepti Sharma leading the attack as Sri Lanka collapsed to 69 all out in 15.4 overs.

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma put India in control

India’s opening partnership immediately set the tone for the gold-medal clash. Mandhana and Verma attacked the Sri Lankan bowling and raced to a 99-run partnership, giving India a strong platform during the powerplay and middle overs. Verma was particularly aggressive during her innings, finding the boundary regularly and clearing the ropes three times. She eventually scored 48 off 29 balls, with three fours and three sixes, before Sri Lanka finally broke the partnership.

Mandhana continued the assault after Verma’s dismissal and produced one of the standout knocks of the match. The left-hander scored 79 from only 45 deliveries, hitting five fours and seven sixes as she kept India’s scoring rate high. Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 19 before Richa Ghosh provided a spectacular finish. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed an unbeaten 49 from just 22 balls, including six fours and three sixes, helping India reach 216/3 from their 20 overs.

Deepti Sharma leads India’s bowling attack

Sri Lanka needed a remarkable start to chase down 217 but lost Chamari Athapaththu after she had made a quick 29 from 21 balls. Shafali dismissed the Sri Lankan captain to give India an important breakthrough. The wicket triggered a collapse as Sri Lanka struggled to deal with India’s disciplined bowling attack. Deepti was particularly impressive, conceding just six runs from her four overs while taking three wickets, including a maiden over.

Verma followed up her contribution with the bat by claiming 2/3, while Shreyanka Patil picked up 2/9 as India’s bowlers continued to take wickets at regular intervals. Sri Lanka failed to establish any meaningful partnerships and were eventually bowled out for just 69 in 15.4 overs. India therefore secured a commanding 147-run victory and completed their gold-medal campaign in emphatic fashion.
