Game Of Thrones Is Officially Replacing Jon Snow In 2027

The Game of Thrones series is full of notable characters, and many of them go on quite extensive journeys across the course of the narrative. That said, there are some that stand out along the way as really progressing far beyond their original iterations.

Jon Snow is probably the most obvious example of that, going from Ned Stark’s bastard son to one of the most important commanders in the entirety of Westeros, and the crucial piece of the eventual defeat of the Night King. As such, it would be interesting to see what the world would be like if things played out a little differently for Snow, and a new Game of Thrones project is about to give us the opportunity to do just that.

In War For Westeros, The Player Takes Command

In case you missed the initial announcement, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is an upcoming strategy game that puts the player in control of the fate of the continent. Setting out, you’ll be able to choose from one of the three great houses, or if none of those appeal, you can even take control of the Night King and his nefarious force of undead. In breaking down a little about what players can expect from the game, the developer shared the following insight.

“From the Wall to King’s Landing, banners will rise. Lead your House to claim the Iron Throne in a solo campaign across Westeros or in bloody multiplayer skirmishes. Rally powerful bannermen, sway loyalties, and outmaneuver your enemies in an ever shifting struggle for power. Re-envision the most iconic battles and turning points from the Game of Thrones series. You decide who wins, and who dies.
“Lead the armies of House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or raise an army of the dead as the Night King himself. Each faction offers deeply asymmetric strategies, with signature heroes, armies, and mechanics forged from the brutal legacy of Westeros. Choose your banner and rewrite the fate of the realm.”

The interesting thing is that while Jon Snow does feature in the game, he will start as an important figure in House Stark which is essentially where he is when we join the series. From there, we’ll be entirely in control of his fate, with the player essentially taking on his role instead.

If all goes well, you will become the most important commander on the continent, and it’s absolutely possible that you’ll be able to seize the Iron Throne for yourself, above the Targaryens and Lannisters.

That kind of freedom hasn’t been offered to us in any Game of Thrones release to date and that’s why it’s such an exciting project to keep an eye on moving forward.

Release Is Coming Quite Soon

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is set to release in 2027, though we don’t have a confirmed release date just yet. It’s also going to be PC only on launch, given that many of the mechanics that make the strategy game what it is would be really difficult to translate across to a controller format.
