Discworld is one of the most enduring fantasy universes, in part because it doesn’t take itself seriously. While plenty of standard fantasy fare begs you to treat goblin-filled settings with the same reverence as Tolkien’s meticulously crafted Middle-earth, Terry Pratchett’s Discworld throws that all out the window, inviting you to share a grand, cosmic joke.

The Discworld series of novels ended with Pratchett’s untimely passing, but the ability to craft humorous adventures in that memorable world hasn’t gone away. In recent years, the focus has shifted to collaborative ways to experience Discworld stories, and two new options are set to arrive later this year.

Tabletop publisher Modiphius has the future of Discworld outlined on its official website, with both Readers Digested and Kill Sam Vimes slated for 2026 releases. Both of these are Discworld board games, although they cover very different topics.

Readers Digested puts players of Assistant Librarians, which Discworld fans should know is a recipe for a lot more than standard library business. As a “madcap game for 2-4 players,” Readers Digested reinterprets the classic board game Blue Moon City with a lot more carnivorous books than before.

Kill Sam Vimes, meanwhile, switches the focus to apprentices of the Assassin’s’ Guild. City Watch commander Sam Vimes is a hard man to kill, but that doesn’t mean that players (2-6 of them, in this case) can’t go all out in their attempts to pull it off.

Neither Readers Digested nor Kill Sam Vimes has a specific release date set at the moment, but both are available for pre-order and expected to start shipping at the end of November. Board game stock isn’t always that straightforward, so there’s no guarantee that the 2026 window will stick around, but it shouldn’t be too long of a wait regardless.

Both of these games have a lot of potential, so hopefully they’ll end up delivering. Discworld‘s comedic sensibilities are the perfect fit for the inherent chaos of board game nights, and they should be both attractive to fans and approachable to newcomers.

Discworld has had board games of varying success in the past, but Modiphius’s stewardship of the IP is relatively new, so these two should prove whether the hype is worth it. If you can’t wait for the board games, there’s also Discworld: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork, a tabletop roleplaying system with a simple rule set to pick up and play.
