Venom Tease Has Gamers Seriously Excited

Ever since the ’90s, Venom has evolved beyond something that you sprinkle on top of a Spider-Man story and has become a popular anti-hero in his own right. Ever since one of his first runs in Lethal Protector, the character has enamored fans for decades, and he’s often viewed in a complicated or

Over the years, the symbiote suit has belonged to many hosts, not just Eddie Brock. Marvel’s Spider-Man even tried something new, letting players take control of Venom momentarily and giving Peter access to the symbiote. It was a Venom-filled romp, and it’s not over yet, since a fully-fledged solo Venom game is still in the works.

Thanks to a new update on X, we have a little bit more info on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Venom, and how it stands.

For those of you following along the development of Marvel’s Venom from Insomniac, which was part of an Insomniac mega-leak in 2023, it’s not over yet. Amid rumors that the game was canceled earlier this year, Forbes and now NateTheHate have united in saying it’s still in development.

Here’s the full statement from NateTheHate, who recently spoke out on X: “Venom is very much still in development upon last check. As to when it’ll be announced, I don’t know.”

This follows the news that Spider-Man: The Great Web has been canceled, the “All-Star”-like game featuring multiple Web Warriors. With Insomniac hard at work launching Wolverine (and potentially going for a DLC run with other stories to be incorporated), it makes sense that they are all hands on deck for that before working on the hype-cycle for Venom.

Fans have responded that they’re willing to wait for Venom, but the entire process has been strange given the leak: “The funniest part about this game is that we’ve known it exists for so long that the official announcement is basically going to be a formality.”

Seemingly forgetting that Insomniac is a Sony studio, at least one fan laments the fact that it will be exclusive to PS5: “Devs need to wise up and make games multi-platform, not just Sony. Unless they like sitting around with no sales.”

Although several Marvel’s Spider-Man games have come out on PC, Sony seems done with the idea of PC ports. Several big Sony-published games are not coming to PC, period (including Ghost of Yotei and Saros), and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls seems to be the last of the lot, only on PC due to prior agreements.
