Joshua Zirkzee now looks set to stay put at Manchester United following the close of Tuesday’s summer transfer window, according the Simon Stone.

While the Dutch marksman might have appeared destined to complete a move away from Old Trafford for large spells of the summer, Stone has now suggested that it is looking increasingly likely that Zirkzee remains in the red half of Manchester.

Although Tuesday’s Deadline Day clock might run until 11pm tonight, the BBC reporter has stated that there is a growing belief that the Dutch international will remain at Old Trafford.

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported last week that Fiorentina had held discussions with the Man United hierarchy and were inching towards agreeing a deal that would have been an initial loan plus a €30million buy option.

However, Romano also announced that Zirkzee himself had turned down a potential switch to Tuscany and all parties had pulled the plug on a potential move.

Left as an unused substitute for both of Manchester United’s opening two Premier League appearances this season, the former Bologna striker has made just a single start since Michael Carrick’s Old Trafford return back in January.

Despite arriving in Manchester for a reported fee of £36million just two years ago, Zirkzee has drastically failed to find his feet. The 25-year-old has registered just five Premier League strikes in his 56 Premier League appearances.

Although United might have been actively working to find a solution for Zirkzee’s exit over the summer, Samuel Luckhurst reported on Deadline Day that the six-cap international remains a popular figure in the Old Trafford dressing room.
