Joao Pedro is hoping his strong start to the season at Chelsea can earn him a regular place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad.

Ancelotti was in the stands at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to watch Joao Pedro start and score in Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Brighton.

The 24-year-old has now scored twice and provided two assists in his opening two Premier League games this season, continuing the impressive form he showed during his first campaign at Chelsea.

“I try to do my job regardless of who is watching,” Joao Pedro told ESPN after the game.

“I always aim to maintain a high standard. As for the Brazilian national team, I want to carry on doing my job and, God willing, I’ll be there.”

Joao Pedro was left out of Brazil’s World Cup squad, with Ancelotti opting for more experienced attacking options.

The forward has eight caps for his country since making his senior debut in 2023 and is now hoping his performances for Chelsea can put him back in contention.

Pedro aiming for titles

Joao Pedro joined Chelsea from Brighton in July 2025 and enjoyed an impressive first season at Stamford Bridge, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in 50 appearances.

He was subsequently named Chelsea’s Player of the Season.

“I think I’ve been proving this [good form] over the years,” Joao Pedro said.

“I got off to a good start last season, and this season too; now it’s a case of keeping up the pace, carrying on working hard and, God willing, finishing as high up the table as possible.”

Brazil were eliminated by Norway in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup and will return to action against Australia in a friendly on September 25.
