Michael Carrick’s side finished third last season after a strong second half, prompted by the former England midfielder’s appointment to replace the sacked Ruben Amorim.

United will be expecting to get off to a winning start against a Hull side that came up via the play-offs in May.

Sergej Jakirovic has worked wonders to get the Tigers into the top flight but it will be a struggle to stay there.
