Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen were, unsurprisingly, massive successes when they launched on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 earlier this year. As part of the ongoing Pokémon 30th anniversary celebrations, the two ports proved immensely popular, despite initial reservations from part of the fandom surrounding the ports’ rather high price point. Of course, the success of these two titles has led fans to wonder when the likes of Ruby and Sapphire will be ported over, as now it feels like an inevitability rather than wishful thinking.

However, before we even get to that point, Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen have a few more tricks up their respective sleeves to offer fans. These legendary games aren’t over yet, as users will be able to unlock a previously unavailable rare Pokémon in both of them very soon. One of the harsh realities of playing FireRed and LeafGreen was their incompletable National Pokédexes, a problem that is somewhat finally being addressed.

Aside from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen’s controversial pricing, users had another major issue with the recent ports. Their biggest problem was that their respective National Pokédexes could not be completed natively, as several Gen 3 Pokémon were not available to be caught in-game. This is, rather understandably, a point of frustration for fans looking to literally catch ’em all in a port of an old game they paid $20 for, especially considering said old game did allow you to complete the Pokédex natively.

Fortunately, that problem has now been mostly solved, as Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are finally supported by Pokémon Home. Previously, fans had been divided on Pokémon Home when it came to FireRed and LeafGreen, as many wanted to see the game supported as soon as it launched, but Nintendo had not announced specifically when it would be added to the service as a compatible title. However, it has officially confirmed that as of October 26, 2026, fans will be able to transfer Pokémon from FireRed and LeafGreen.

Crucially, Pokémon cannot be transferred from Pokémon Home to FireRed and LeafGreen, which means that, at least for now, the National Pokédex in both games still cannot be completed natively. However, what users can unlock is the rare legendary, Celebi. To unlock this rare Pokémon, all you need to do is complete the game’s Pokédex and then connect your copy of FireRed or LeafGreen to Pokémon Home. The service will scan your Pokédex, and once it’s confirmed it’s complete, it will automatically gift you Celebi.

This does bring Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen players one step closer to completing the National Pokédex, something that may be made easier if the rumors that Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire also release on October 26, 2026, come true. At the very least, it’s a nice reward for those who’ve already invested heavily in the Switch and Switch 2 ports of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen and completed the Pokédex.
