Star Wars Battlefront 2 lives on through the thriving community, as well as heaps of mods. Although it’s been 20 years since the launch of EA’s sci-fi war simulator, people have been keeping it alive by constantly playing it, and it’s really easy to find a game all these years later on most platforms thanks to the re-release.
It was actually a pretty good strategy action game despite its age. The fans know it, and they’ve slowly chipped away at some of the game’s shortcomings to the point where Battlefront 2 has become a well-oiled machine. Based on a report from Bespin Bulletin, folks are still discovering official Easter eggs and secrets, too.
Fans are constantly digging into Star Wars Battlefront 2, and now, they’ve found some cut content. One of the major discoveries is a playable Wampa character, who exclusively wields claws as it takes down enemies (mostly Ewoks, as you can only play it on the Endor map).
You can play as the Wampa through a series of weird steps:
- Create a profile called “wampa” with all lower-case letters
- Select Instant Action
- Select the Endor map and Hunt mode
- Select Empire as your faction
- Then select the Wampa character
A second major discovery has been made as well: a new game mode. Billed as a “top-down” arena duel game type, you’ll play through a round of Assault, but with a bird’s-eye camera. You can 1v1 CPUs in this mode, or battle other players.
Here’s how to unlock it:
- Load up the game on Xbox (any version)
- Create a profile called “VkJSeOntUHY” (case-sensitive)
- Go to Instant Action
- Select Mos Eisley and Assault
- Start the match as any faction or character
Weirdly, this mode is playable in any version of the Xbox edition of the game (even the newer re-releases), and only on Xbox.
It’s a shame that the 2017 edition of Star Wars Battlefront 2 didn’t make the same impact on the industry. In fact, you could say it did the opposite, as the heavy monetization efforts for the game didn’t go over well. EA had to completely rework the game, and even then, it had lost some of its audience. It’s still around today, but it could have been a return to form, and a harbinger for more Star Wars Battlefront games.
In the meantime, there’s always the original Star Wars Battlefront 2. People are still playing it, and it holds up, so it’s a great time to jump back in.
