At long last, Avatar: Seven Havens, the latest entry in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe, has released its first official trailer. The first trailer does a great job of teasing the post-apocalyptic state the world has fallen into since Korra’s era, with all the same great animation that’s defined the franchise, albeit with a new art style, and with the series premiering on October 9, it won’t be long before people get to see what it has to offer.

Avatar: Seven Havens already looks to be as perfect a continuation of Avatar as one could ask for, and that’s especially true when looking at its connections to The Legend of Korra. Naturally, the new Avatar, Pavi, follows Korra in the cycle, and much of the show revolves around Korra seemingly destroying the world and creating the post-apocalyptic state of the Seven Havens; however, it might go even further than that, as to the surprise of many, the teaser trailer all but confirms that the series is bringing back one of Korra’s most controversial villains.

The Legend Of Korra’s Biggest Villain Is All But Confirmed For Seven Havens

While the finer details of Avatar: Seven Havens’ plot are still under wraps, the teaser trailer dropped a pretty big and surprising hint at who the villain is. At the end of the Avatar: Seven Havens teaser trailer, a mysterious formation of red and black light in the shape of a diamond appears on screen, with a central yellow diamond that vaguely resembles an eye. All of that, of course, is reminiscent of Vaatu, the main villain of Book 2 of The Legend of Korra, and that highly suggests that Vaatu will be the main villain of Seven Havens.

Vaatu is highly controversial among fans and critics not only for his bizarre design, but because the idea of him embodying darkness and evil went against the fanbase’s perception of spirits at the time, and he’s a major reason why Book 2 is often considered the worst season of The Legend of Korra. However, between his part in Avatar lore and how wonderfully over-the-top he is, Vaatu easily ranks among the best of The Legend of Korra’s villains, and bringing him back for Seven Havens can be a great idea, especially if it connects to the mystery of Korra’s actions.

Vaatu’s return would be especially interesting due to Pavi’s story. Pavi, very uniquely, has a twin sister named Nisha, so if Vaatu is back, then he might have attached his spirit to Nisha, meaning he could turn Nisha into a Dark Avatar like Unalaq to take over the world and force Pavi to fight her sister to the death. Something like that would not only be heartbreaking to watch, but if played right, it could do wonders to make Vaatu stand out as a villain, and hopefully, Avatar: Seven Havens will go in that direction this October.

Avatar: Seven Havens Will Be The Perfect Fix To The Legend Of Korra’s Legacy

While The Legend of Korra was hardly perfect, people have been unjustly hating The Legend of Korra for almost 15 years because of their issues with the worldbuilding, writing, and Korra herself, most of which can be boiled down to them just not liking that it isn’t The Last Airbender. Now, though, with Seven Havens directly playing off Korra’s character and story, there’s a perfect chance to improve Korra’s reputation in the eyes of the public, and bringing back Vaatu as the villain can do wonders to play along with that.

With how rocky the state of the Avatar franchise has been over the past decade, a lot is riding on Seven Havens to be a hit, but between how great the teaser trailer looks and the implications of Vaatu’s return, it’s already poised to succeed both on its own merits and as a follow-up to The Legend of Korra. Avatar: Seven Havens should do wonders to play into the legacy of The Legend of Korra and the wider Avatar franchise, and hopefully, all of that and more will happen when it premieres on October 9.
