10 Years After Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman, DC Kills Superman Again

One of DC‘s biggest stories in the comics is Superman‘s death, and 10 years after Zack Snyder brought it to the big screen in the old DCEU movie timeline, DC has repeated that, with a twist, in a new 2026 release. Superman is one of DC’s biggest superheroes. As such, many actors have played Superman in live-action over the years.

In the DCEU movie franchise, Henry Cavill played Superman, interacting with a wide array of DC heroes and villains. Cavill’s Superman was part of the first live-action Justice League movie, which had Superman’s resurrection as one of its main storylines. The Man of Steel had died a year prior, in one of Snyder’s DC movies, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Superman’s death in the 2016 DC movie was not as impactful as in the comics. After all, everyone knew that with a Justice League movie in 2017, the DCEU would never keep Cavill’s Superman dead. Now, a decade after that controversial development, and other versions of Superman’s death in different universes, DC has repeated that storyline with a massive twist.

My Adventures with Superman season 3 is airing new episodes weekly on Adult Swim and HBO Max. The animated Superman series has recreated many iconic comic book storylines, with its latest episode being responsible for an adaptation of Superman’s tragic death. However, the show’s events did not play out like one might have expected.

Superman “Dies” In This 2026 DC Series

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for My Adventures with Superman season 3, episode 5.My Adventures with Superman season 3, episode 5, is aptly titled “The Death of Superman.” That dark fate for the DC hero is the central theme of the episode, with Jon Kent, Clark and Lois’ son from the future, revealing that Hank Henshaw, aka Cyborg Superman, killed the Man of Steel in the timeline he comes from. That increases tension for the present storyline, as Superman takes on the villain in a fiery fight. Cyborg Superman’s major advantage over Jack Quaid’s Superman is that he is powered by a Kryptonite power core.

As such, throughout their long fight, Superman is continuously exposed to his biggest weakness. Different from the original “The Death of Superman” and its adaptations, My Adventures with Superman season 3 chooses to go for a more surprising path. The fight does not end with the Man of Steel dead. However, Superman is “killed,” in a way, as only Clark Kent is left when the dust settles. Due to intense Kryptonite poisoning, Clark ends up losing his powers, no longer able to protect the world as Superman.

How My Adventures With Superman Differs From Zack Snyder’s Version Of The DC Event

Superman lying dead in Batman v Superman

10 years after Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we get another Death of Superman adaptation from DC. That said, the way both projects tackle that iconic storyline could not have been more different. Snyder went for a more classic approach to it, with the birth of Doomsday and the villain being the one to kill Cavill’s Superman, who also took him out at the same time. Even though he would be resurrected merely a year later in 2017’s Justice League, Superman really did die in the DCEU version of the story. In My Adventures with Superman season 3, Clark is still alive.

When Cavill’s Superman came back, he had his powers. In the HBO Max DC series, Clark lost his powers and did so fighting Cyborg Superman, not Doomsday. As such, the two shows went for completely different takes on the major DC Comics event. Another key difference is that My Adventures with Superman season 3 is also tackling the comic book arc that came after that, “Reign of the Supermen,” with Superboy, Supergirl, and more able to carry the torch for the Man of Steel now that Clark has lost his powers, and potentially other evil Superman replacements like Cyborg Superman yet to appear.
