Disney is considered the most successful movie studio of all time, with everything from original animated films to IPs it acquired, and there are many upcoming Disney movies up to 2029 and beyond. Disney has seen considerable success with live-action remakes like Cruella and Maleficent, as well as animated properties like Frozen 2, and it continues to expand in the 2020s with more entries in the Frozen series and additional live-action adaptations.
The studio has also continued releasing new movies directly to Disney+, including Pixar features. What the future holds now that Disney is steadily releasing several of the films from its acquisition of 20th Century Fox remains to be seen. Movies released by Disney no longer fit as narrow a definition as they once did, given all the studios that operate under the entertainment giant’s purview.
But the upcoming release slate certainly includes a number of films that fit into that category. Here’s a rundown of all upcoming Disney movies until 2029.
Hexed (November 25, 2026)
Hexed

November 25, 2026
- Director

Jason Hand, Fawn Veerasunthorn
- Producers

Hexed is the biggest 2026 Disney animated movie release, a coming-of-age fantasy film about a teenage girl named Billie who learns she has magical abilities that transport her from a suburban life to the realm of Hexe. This is the land of witches, and with her mother, Alice, she investigates how her family connects to these witches. With Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones as the lead voice stars, this will be Disney’s big holiday release.
Frozen 3 (November 24, 2027)

-
November 24, 2027
- Director
-
Jennifer Lee
- Writers
-
Jennifer Lee, Marc Smith
Frozen 3 has an official release date of November 24, 2027. As one of Disney’s most successful franchises, it’s no surprise that Frozen‘s story will continue, despite the satisfying ending given to Anna and Elsa at the end of Frozen 2. There is nothing readily available in the way of plot details, but considering the many questions that Frozen 3 could answer, there should be no shortage of avenues for returning screenwriter Jennifer Lee to explore.
Lilo & Stitch 2 (May 26, 2028)
Lilo & Stitch 2 follows the billion-dollar Disney live-action remake from 2025, which centers on a little girl named Lilo who finds a family with an alien named Stitch. The animated movie franchise had a sequel in 2005 called Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, but this sequel will not be a remake of the previous movie.
Chris Sanders, who directed the first animated movie, will return for the sequel (Dean Fleischer Camp directed the live-action remake). There is no word on what the film will be based on, or if it will be a new original story, but this is Sanders’ first connection with the movie other than voicing Stitch since the original animated release.

Disney spent decades acquiring every franchise and studio it could, and the most successful venture for them has been the MCU. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, based on Marvel Comics characters, has dominated cinema since 2008’s Iron Man. Marvel has not announced its plans beyond 2027, but it has a two-part movie series coming out with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars before the MCU reboots into the world of mutants.
Upcoming MCU Movies (2026 – 2027) | |

Untitled X-Men film | TBA |
Marvel has confirmed only a handful of projects beyond the Avengers films. The only real announcements are the Shang-Chi sequel and the fact that Ryan Coogler is returning to Black Panther 3, with Denzel Washington joining the MCU. Marvel has made it clear that the mutants will play a big role in the next phase, and there are also rumors of a new Deadpool movie. Add in a rumored Midnight Sons movie, and it looks like Marvel is waiting until Doomsday and Secret Wars to reveal its future plans.
Disney’s Upcoming Star Wars Movies
The theatrical future of Star Wars is less certain, with the franchise taking a break from cinemas to focus on Star Wars Disney+ series. Nevertheless, Star Wars returned to cinemas in 2026 with The Mandalorian & Grogu, although it was a box office bomb. That said, there is still a 2027 release coming from director Shawn Levy called Star Wars: Starfighter. This is a standalone film, and there are no other films with release dates scheduled yet, as Disney might be waiting to see box office totals for this film.
The following Star Wars movies are all confirmed in development:

Pixar’s Upcoming Releases
Disney has begun treating Pixar with respect again after sending its movies straight to Disney+ for a couple of years. This includes the massively successful Toy Story 5, which ranks among the top critically rated films in Pixar history, as well as a monster box office success. That said, the only two announced releases include an original release and another sequel.
Gatto (March 5, 2027)
Pixar’s next movie release is an original movie called Gatto, which is the only announced 2027 release so far. The movie is directed by Enrico Casarosa, with Mark Ruffalo voicing a black stray cat named Nero who doesn’t like water, loves music, and is adopted by a street artist named Maya against his will. However, this is also a mobster movie, as Nero is indebted to a feline mob boss. The Pixar release has a March 5, 2027, release date.
Incredibles 3 (June 16, 2028)
The next massive Pixar sequel will arrive in 2028 with Incredibles 3. This follows the critically acclaimed first movie, released in 2004, and its sequel from 2018. However, the difference here is that this is the first movie that Brad Bird won’t direct, although he is still writing the script. Instead, Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur, Elemental) will handle the directing duties as this movie and the still unscheduled Coco 2 are on the horizon for Pixar.
Disney’s Upcoming 20th Century Fox/Studios Movies
Disney acquired rival studio 20th Century Fox in 2019, renaming it 20th Century Studios. The status of 20th Century Studios properties as Disney movies is debatable. Some, like Avatar, The Bob’s Burgers Movie, and 2022’s Prey, have been fully embraced by Disney. Others, like the Hellraiser reboot and Boston Strangler, starring Keira Knightley, sit further from Disney’s family-friendly brand.
With that said, there are several Fox movies coming out over the next few years.

The Simpsons Movie came out in 2007, and while Fox has hinted at a sequel for years, it has remained on the back burner until now. The announcement for this movie finally arrived in 2025, with word that The Simpsons Movie 2 was going to get made. The film was originally supposed to be released in the summer of 2027, but Fox chose to move it to September 3, 2027, to avoid competition with A Minecraft Movie Squared.
Avatar 4/Avatar 5 (December 21, 2029/December 19, 2031)
When Avatar 3 was released and made much less than the previous two releases in the franchise, James Cameron asked fans to wait for any announcement about the last two movies in the series. He said he would only make them based on fan interest, which comes down to box office totals. However, Avatar: Fire and Ash made $1.5 billion at the box office, which is still a success, and there are release dates for the last two movies.
Unless plans change, the current release dates are December 21, 2029, for Avatar 4 and December 19, 2031, for Avatar 5.
