Avesh Khan breaks silence on Rishabh Pant-Kuldeep Yadav blockbuster trade ahead of IPL 2027

The Indian Premier League witnessed one of its biggest player swaps ahead of the 2027 season as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) agreed to a blockbuster trade involving Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav. The deal sees Pant return to Delhi Capitals after spending a brief stint with Lucknow, while Kuldeep joins the Super Giants to bolster their spin attack.

Pant, who was acquired by LSG for a record ₹27 crore before the 2026 season, moves back to his former franchise on a revised contract worth ₹15 crore. Kuldeep, meanwhile, heads to Lucknow at his existing salary of ₹13.5 crore. The move has generated significant discussion across the cricketing world, with both franchises hoping the trade will help reshape their fortunes after contrasting campaigns last season.

Avesh Khan shares his take on the blockbuster trade

Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Avesh Khan believes the exchange is a positive outcome for both teams and expressed complete faith in the management’s decision-making process.

Speaking to ANI, Avesh said, “That was a management decision based on their needs. I believe it’s a good deal for both teams. Delhi got Rishabh Pant back, and we got Kuldeep, whose experience as a world-class spinner will be very beneficial for us on our large home ground.”

The pacer highlighted Kuldeep’s experience as one of India’s premier wrist-spinners and believes his arrival could significantly strengthen LSG’s bowling attack, particularly at the Ekana Stadium, where the large boundaries often favour quality spin bowling.

Avesh also made it clear that the decision was driven by the franchise’s long-term planning rather than individual preferences. With Lucknow looking to recover from a disappointing 2026 campaign, the addition of an experienced spinner like Kuldeep is expected to add greater balance to the squad.

Why the Trade Could Be a Win-Win for Both Franchises

The trade has the potential to benefit both teams in different ways. For Delhi Capitals, bringing Pant back represents much more than signing an explosive wicketkeeper-batter. Pant has been closely associated with the franchise for nearly a decade and has previously captained the side. His return restores a familiar leader around whom the team can rebuild its batting unit and dressing-room culture.

For Lucknow, acquiring Kuldeep addresses an area that required strengthening. The left-arm wrist-spinner has consistently delivered in the IPL and international cricket, offering wicket-taking ability in the middle overs. His variations could prove particularly effective on Lucknow’s slower home surface, where spin has traditionally played a decisive role.

The move also gives LSG greater financial flexibility by reducing their overall salary commitment, allowing them additional room to strengthen other departments before the IPL 2027 auction. However, Pant’s departure also leaves the franchise searching for a new captain, making the leadership decision equally crucial in their rebuilding process.
