The best way to earn rupees in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is by selling some of the materials Link collects on his adventure. As players get further into the game, they’ll have a lot of items in their inventory; outfits, elixirs, meals, monster parts, random ingredients, and more. It’s better to sell these items than just toss them.

When deciding what items to sell, players need to balance between getting rupees and keeping their best loot. They usually shouldn’t sell Tears of the Kingdom‘s best Fuse materials, and they shouldn’t toss their key ingredients like meat, rice, or milk. The best strategy for selling materials is to confidently sell whatever can be collected in spades, and decide whether selling rare and expensive items is worth it at the moment.

Rare Ores

Just about every guide on the best items to sell in TOTK suggests collecting the rare ores found in golden ore deposits across Hyrule. The list of rare ores includes Opal (30 rupees), Topaz (80), Raw Gem (Sapphire) (110), Ruby (150), and Diamond (500).

Diamonds are a great way to collect rupees, but they can also work as good Fuse materials and count towards some special quests, so players may want to save these valuable gems. The other gems can provide elemental attacks to weapons, but it’s better to sell them.

Dragon Parts

There are multiple dragons flying throughout Hyrule in TOTK. If Link can get close to these grand beasts, he can collect the shards growing off their backs or shoot off materials from their bodies. Shards sell for 30 rupees, scales for 150, claws for 180, fangs for 250, and horns for 300.

Similar to diamonds, the more expensive the material, the more damage it would do as a Fused weapon. Still, with so many monsters roaming Hyrule, it may be worth selling the dragon parts and waiting for something else to Fuse.

Star Fragments

Star Fragments in Tears of the Kingdom serve as key ingredients for upgrading certain outfits. One Star Fragment falls from the sky every night, casting a beam of light behind it.

While Star Fragments can also be used with weapons and shields, they also fetch a great price from vendors. Each Star Fragment sells for 200 rupees, so if players don’t have any of the armor sets that use Star Fragments, it may be worth it to sell these rare items.

Meals

Meals are a key resource in TOTK, restoring Link’s Hearts after he’s been hurt. As the game progresses, players will be able to cook better and better dishes that restore more hearts. By combining some common ingredients like mushrooms and apples into a simple meal, players can sell the dish for more than the individual ingredients combined.

Since those recipes only give a few Hearts, it is better to sell them in the later game than keep them around.

Spicy Peppers

If you don’t actually end up doing much cooking or find yourself with too many to know what to do with, Spicy Peppers are an incredibly common resource that can be safely sold in most cases. As some of the first items you’ll find on Sky Islands and offering Heat Resistance as its primary cooking buff, these become mostly useless once you acquire an armor set with cold-resistance.Although Spicy Peppers are great to have on hand for the occasional cooking recipe, unless your stash is running low, they’re mostly safe to sell off in large quantities for a handy 3 rupees each. Just make sure you keep regularly grabbing more while exploring.

Elixirs

There are plenty of elixirs in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, made with the same basic insect or amphibian and improved with potent monster parts. Many potions either have effects that only last a minute due to the low-quality monster parts used.

These elixirs are better off sold than used, following a similar logic to the concept of selling meals. If it doesn’t do much, sell it off.

Brightbloom Seeds

Brightbloom Seeds can be found in caves across Hyrule’s surface in TOTK. These seeds and their giant variants are the main way players light up the Depths as they try to reach a new Lightroot.

The Giant Brightbloom Seeds are more useful than the smaller seeds, and players will eventually end up with hundreds of regular Brightbloom Seeds. Rather than lighting up tiny portions of the Depths, selling these huge collections can rake in a fair amount of rupees.

Amber

Amber is a common ore in TOTK found alongside flint and rock salt that can be attached to arrows and early-game weapons for some extra damage. However, as the game progresses and Link gets better materials, it may be better to sell off his Amber collection.

At 10 rupees per piece, a few trips into the caves just under Hyrule’s surface can prove profitable, even if players don’t find rare ore.

Nails, Hooves, And Fangs

Nails, hooves, and fangs are all grouped together because they are the weaker parts a player can collect from a monster. When farming for Fuse materials, players should focus on collecting horns, since they are the strongest part of the monster.

With monsters like the Hinox in Tears of the Kingdom, the Lynel, and other beasts, players can collect toenails, hooves, and other parts. Unless the part counts towards an outfit upgrade the player wants, it is better to sell these materials and save the horns and guts of a TOTK monster.

Construct Parts

Although Construct Parts are incredibly valuable in the early game for Tears of the Kingdom, by mid-to-late game, you’ll eventually be coming across far more than you know what to do with. Found from defeated Construct enemies on Sky Islands or occasionally The Surface, these fusing materials have a going rate of a regular Soldier Construct Horns selling for 2 rupees, Soldier Construct II Horn for 4, Soldier Construct Horn III for 10, and lastly, a Captain IV Construct Horn for a whopping 30 rupees each.

Even with their abundance towards the end of the game, you’ll still likely want to keep a hold of Captain Construct Horns due to their high fusing capabilities. At 35 points per item, they’re far more worthwhile as a material for Zonaite weapon fusing rather than selling outright, especially compared to the weaker Construct pieces you’ll be finding more frequently that are only really worth keeping around to upgrade the Zonai armor set.
