Disney+’s New Medical Thriller K-Drama Sets 2025 Viewership Record Two Weeks After Its Premiere

Disney+ is steadily building a strong collection of K-dramas. The streamer is home to Moving, a K-drama that blends regular teen angst with superhero stakes. It debuted to widespread acclaim, racking up viewership internationally and paving the way for the announcement of Moving season 2. It is also home to Light Shop, which is loosely connected to the superpowered teen series. Both are adaptations of works by Kang Full, though Light Shop has a more horror and supernatural focus.

A Shop for Killers, an adaptation of a novel by Kang Ji-young, is another series that has garnered buzz and positive reviews. Consisting of eight episodes, the mystery thriller centers on a young woman whose life changes unexpectedly after the death of an uncle. Another recent thriller is also making waves, mere weeks after releasing.

Hyper Knife Is Starting Strong

A Surgeon Goes Underground In The New Show

Hyper Knife focuses on Jeong Seok (played by Extraordinary Attorney Woo star Park Eun-bin), who is an exceptional neurosurgeon. Her skills are matched only by her perfectionism. But after discovering a shocking revelation, Seok is betrayed by her mentor and stripped of her medical license. Seok refuses to back down, performing underground surgeries for people who are often forgotten by society. Soon, though, her former mentor seeks her out once again and leaves her with a difficult choice.

Sul Kyung-gu, Yoon Chan-young, and Park Byung-eun also star in the series, which is written by Kim Sun-hee and directed by Kim Jung-hyun.

Variety reports that the medical thriller is now Disney+’s most-viewed Korean premiere globally in 2025. The news about Hyper Knife comes only two weeks after the show’s launch on March 19. The ranking is based on seven days of streaming data, with the medical drama demonstrating strong viewership in the Asia-Pacific region in addition to its overall worldwide numbers.

Our Take On Hyper Knife

It Grips You From The Jump

A doctor, mid-conversation, in Hyper Knife

Like a lot of the best K-dramas on Disney+, which are also available on Hulu in the U.S., Hyper Knife benefits from a relatively high concept and a tight focus. It begins by setting the stage, introducing the feuding main characters, and showing what it is that makes Seok so good at what she does. It’s an approach that has worked well for the thriller so far, maintaining the hot streak that streaming has enjoyed with a diverse array of international series that run the gamut from comedic to serious.
