The One Rule: No White (And Other Dress Code Rules)
Never wear white: This includes cream, ivory, champagne, or any shade close enough to be mistaken for bridal. Unless the couple has explicitly invited guests to wear white, avoid it entirely.
No black for some cultures: Certain cultural and religious traditions consider black inappropriate for weddings. If you are attending a wedding where this might be relevant, check with someone close to the couple or choose a different color.
Read the venue: Floor-length gowns at a casual outdoor wedding can look overdressed; sundresses at a black-tie affair are underdressed. Match the venue level.
Short hemlines at religious venues: If the ceremony is in a church, mosque, temple, or other religious space, a knee-length or longer hem and covered shoulders are respectful.
What to Carry
The summer wedding guest bag should be small, elegant, and functional. A satin or leather clutch for evening, a small structured crossbody for outdoor daytime ceremonies, or a compact box bag for more formal events. Skip large totes, canvas bags, and anything with casual branding at a wedding the bag is part of the look at a formal occasion.
