Since its release back in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has gone on to serve as a major source of inspiration for many different forms of media during its almost six-year stint. We have lost count of the amount of cyberpunk video games that have hit the market since Cyberpunk 2077′s launch, and back in 2022, fans were treated to a Netflix anime series inspired by the dark and depraved world of Night City.
Produced by Japanese animation studio Trigger, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners arrived on Netflix, serving as a standalone prequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Despite also being set in Night City, Edgerunners followed a new group of characters led by David Martinez, a street kid who finds himself embroiled in the city’s underground as he battles with cybernetic enhancements and the life of a mercenary.
Meeting critical acclaim, Cyberpunk Edgerunners was green lit for a second season back in 2025, with the sequel offering a standalone, 10-episode follow-up. Although it will be set after the events of season one, it will offer viewers a brand-new story with a fresh set of characters.
According to Netflix’s co-CEO Michal Nowakowski, Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 will arrive on the platform “in due time”, but a recent announcement has got fans hyped over our return to Night City. Announced on the official Cyberpunk Edgerunners Twitter/X account, it was revealed that Season 2 of the hit show will appear at Anime Expo 2026.
“Join us for a first look at the next standalone story from Night City, plus a behind-the-scenes discussion with the creators bringing it to life,” the social media post reads. “Hosted by Danny Motta, featuring Director Kai Ikarashi, Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor, Executive Producer Saya Elder, and special guests.” With Anime Expo 2026 expected to take place on 3 July, and the Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners panel starting at 7:30 PM PT, it is not long until we potentially find out more about the highly anticipated second season.
Since it was confirmed back in 2025, we have received little to no information about what we can expect for the second season of Cyberpunk Edgerunners but, if it is anything like the first, we are in for a lot of action, drama, and heartbreak. In CD Projekt RED’s official blog post about the sequel, it shared, “David is dead. But Night City lives on.” Additionally, we got a sneak peek at some of the themes which will be prevalent as the story continues. “In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?” With the show’s writer, Bartosz Sztybor, claiming that fans should be “prepared for sadness”, we can only imagine what Cyberpunk Edgerunner‘s creators have in store.
