The PlayStation 6’s Design Is Already Being Roasted By Gamers

Despite there currently being no official confirmation from Sony, we can safely assume that the PlayStation 6, or whatever it may be called, is on the horizon. It has been almost six years since the release of the PlayStation 5, but with the launch of Sony’s latest console being less than smooth, many players feel as though they have hardly had any time with both the PS5 and the mid-generation PlayStation 5 Pro.

Released during the COVID-19 pandemic and having to deal with both stock shortages and scalpers, many users did not get their hands on the PS5 straight away, and that is not to mention the lack of exclusives that the console has welcomed.

As a result, many Sony users are not in a rush to move onto the PlayStation 6, but there is no denying that its development is most likely on the cards. Which leads us to the next question: what will the PS6 look like?

The look of the original PlayStation looks quite different to the newly released PlayStation 5, with the PlayStation 1 showcasing a tiny, rectangular console with a disk drive. In comparison, the PlayStation 5 is a lot larger, and can be stored both vertically or horizontally (although there is a correct answer here), and does not look too dissimilar to a skyscraper. It is this comparison that has started a discussion over on r/playstation, with one PlayStation user guessing what the upcoming PS6 could look like.

“After careful calculations, I am POSITIVE this is what the PS6 will look like,” they shared, alongside an image showcasing all of the skyscrapers around the world that look like the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and, of course, the PlayStation 5. However, it was the skyscraper provided as inspiration for the PS6 that caught our attention. Featuring the tall console we all expect, the user believes that the upcoming console will feature a pointed top as opposed to the curvier PlayStation 5.

As you can imagine, a discussion soon ensued with other players putting forward ideas about what they would like to see in the PlayStation 6’s aesthetic. “A simple rectangle would be fine,” one user shared. Another user had their own way of looking at the world, commenting, “Even numbers are box shaped. Odd numbers are curved shaped. PS6 will most likely be a box shape.”

With others saying “RIP to the disk drive”, it seems as though posts like this are a reminder of how far technology has come since the PlayStation was released way back in 1995. As such, we can only imagine what the PlayStation will look like in another 30 years from now.
