01

Dexter’s adoptive father taught him a code to channel his dark urges — only kill those who deserve it. Who taught Dexter the Code?

✓ Correct! Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father and a Miami homicide detective, recognized Dexter’s dark urges early and taught him “The Code of Harry” — a set of rules to ensure he only kills other murderers and never gets caught.

✗ Sloppy work! The answer is Harry Morgan. Doakes was suspicious of Dexter, Angel Batista was his colleague, and “James Doakes” is Doakes’ first name but he didn’t teach the Code. Harry is the father who shaped the Dark Passenger.

02

Dexter works at Miami Metro Police Department as a forensic specialist. What is his specific area of expertise?

✓ Correct! Blood spatter analysis — the irony of a serial killer who specializes in blood at crime scenes is central to the show’s dark humor. Dexter uses his expertise to both solve cases and cover his own tracks.

✗ Sloppy work! The answer is blood spatter analysis. It’s the defining irony of the show — Miami’s most prolific serial killer is the department’s blood expert. His knowledge helps him commit perfect murders and clean up without leaving evidence.

03

Sergeant Doakes was the only person at Miami Metro who instinctively distrusted Dexter from the start, famously confronting him. What was Doakes’ iconic catchphrase directed at Dexter?

✓ Correct! “Surprise, motherf***er!” became one of TV’s most iconic lines, delivered by Erik King as Sergeant James Doakes. His gut feeling about Dexter was right all along, making him one of the show’s most tragically correct characters.

✗ Sloppy work! The answer is “Surprise, motherf***er.” Erik King’s delivery of this line as Doakes became a cultural phenomenon and internet meme. Doakes was the one person who saw through Dexter’s mask from the very beginning.

04

In Season 1, Dexter discovers that the Ice Truck Killer has a deeply personal connection to him. What is the Ice Truck Killer’s true identity?

✓ Correct! Brian Moser is Dexter’s biological brother, separated from him after they both witnessed their mother’s murder as children. Brian became the Ice Truck Killer, leaving carefully staged crime scenes to attract Dexter’s attention and reunite with his brother.

✗ Sloppy work! The answer is Brian Moser — Dexter’s biological brother. Miguel Prado is the Season 3 antagonist, Arthur Mitchell is the Trinity Killer (Season 4), and Jordan Chase is the Season 5 villain. Brian’s reveal as Dexter’s brother was the show’s first major twist.

05

Season 4’s Trinity Killer is widely considered the show’s greatest villain. John Lithgow won an Emmy for the role. What is the Trinity Killer’s real name?

✓ Correct! Arthur Mitchell, played brilliantly by John Lithgow, maintained a façade as a devoted family man while committing ritualistic killings in cycles of three. The Season 4 finale — where Arthur kills Rita — is considered one of the most shocking moments in television history.

✗ Sloppy work! The answer is Arthur Mitchell. George King (the Skinner) is from Season 3, Oliver Saxon is the Season 8 villain, and Brian Moser is the Season 1 Ice Truck Killer. Lithgow’s portrayal of Arthur Mitchell earned him an Emmy and is regarded as one of TV’s all-time great villain performances.

06

Dexter’s sister Debra Morgan, played by Jennifer Carpenter, also works at Miami Metro. What is her rank by the later seasons of the original series?

✓ Correct! Debra rises through the ranks from detective to Lieutenant of Miami Metro Homicide. Her promotion to Lieutenant is a major plot point, and her gradual discovery of Dexter’s true nature becomes one of the show’s most emotionally devastating storylines.

✗ Sloppy work! The answer is Lieutenant. Debra starts as a vice detective, becomes a homicide detective, then rises to Lieutenant. Her professional growth mirrors the show’s escalating tension as she gets closer and closer to uncovering her brother’s secret.

07

In the revival series Dexter: New Blood (2021), Dexter is living under a fake identity in a small town in upstate New York. What alias does he go by?

✓ Correct! Dexter goes by “Jim Lindsay” in the fictional town of Iron Lake, New York, where he works at a local fish and game shop. The name “Lindsay” is an easter egg — Jeff Lindsay is the author of the Dexter book series that inspired the show.

✗ Sloppy work! The answer is Jim Lindsay. The alias is a clever nod to Jeff Lindsay, the author who created Dexter in the novel “Darkly Dreaming Dexter.” In Iron Lake, Dexter tries to suppress his Dark Passenger but is inevitably drawn back to killing.

08

What does Dexter use to prepare his “kill rooms” — the material he covers the walls and surfaces with to prevent leaving forensic evidence?

✓ Correct! Plastic sheeting (often referred to as “plastic wrap” or “saran wrap”) is Dexter’s signature kill room material. The imagery of Dexter meticulously covering a room in plastic became one of the show’s most iconic visual motifs, symbolizing his careful, methodical approach to murder.

✗ Sloppy work! The answer is plastic sheeting. The clear plastic wrap covering every surface of the kill room is one of Dexter’s most recognizable visual signatures. It represents both his forensic expertise — no DNA or evidence left behind — and his ritualistic preparation.

Master of the Code — or just another sloppy killer?

Speaking to ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley at Dexter: Resurrection‘s FYC event, Alcott, who is returning for season 2 of Resurrection as Harrison Morgan, spoke about the upcoming changes that people may not be accustomed to, and the transformation is “unlike any other version we’ve seen.” When asked how their dynamic will change in the upcoming season, Alcott gives a little tease on what to expect.

ScreenRant: Harrison and Dexter seem to be the most on the same page as they are in the entire Resurrection arc in that finale. So, what can you tease about how that dynamic is going to progress, evolve, or change in any way for season 2?

Jack Alcott: Well, I mean, when you’ve been through a lot with somebody, you get closer, and we’ve watched Harrison and Dexter drift apart, slam back together again, drift apart again. We’ve watched them go through more than most father-son duos would go through. Not everybody kills their dad or thinks that they did. So we’re going to see a version that we haven’t seen before, which is the version that’s been through all of the sh*t that we just witnessed. We’ve seen them go through so much together. So they’ll forever be learning from each other and developing their relationship as a father and a son, as peers, as friends. And we’re going to see a version that’s a little more lived in than any other version that we’ve seen.

Dexter and Harrison were reintroduced in Dexter: New Blood after Dexter chose to leave his son with Hannah McKay (played by Yvonne Strahovski) in the flagship series after feeling trapped in an endless cycle and afraid he would inflict some trauma or that Harrison could end up like him. Dexter faked his own death to break what seemed to be a generational curse, and in New Blood, Harrison locates Dexter in Iron Lake, which leads to several confrontations, including Dexter’s admission of who he truly is.

However, the final blow was Harrison seemingly ending his father’s life after fully coming to terms with Dexter’s true nature and hoping to end the cycle of violence. Now, in Resurrection, Dexter locates Harrison after escaping Iron Lake, which shocks Harrison, who was unaware he survived, and their dynamic is slowly rebuilding as they engage in normal father-son bonding, including helping to cover up murders both have committed.

New set photos have revealed Harrison’s transformation into a police officer, which could be a major change in dynamics between the father and son due to Dexter’s dark passenger still very much alive. However, with Harrison’s own dark passenger in the background, it could lead to quite a cleverly worked dynamic for both parties.
