9-1-1: Nashville — the newest offering in the universe, is officially returning for season 2. Despite the flagship being cancelled by Fox, ABC’s risk to pick it up and make it a part of its programming has paid off big time. Not only does 9-1-1 continue to deliver on ratings every week, it became successful enough to launch another spinoff in the Ryan Murphy-created universe that debuted during the 2025-2026 TV cycle.
Not long after the end of 9-1-1: Lone Star, Murphy and his team didn’t waste any time working on expanding its first-responder world with an offshoot that takes place in Tennessee. Spearheaded by Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, and LeAnn Rhimes, 9-1-1: Nashville is more dramatic and soap-like than its predecessors. Despite that, it’s clear that it has found an audience, since ABC is more than happy to continue its story.
9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 Is Officially Confirmed By ABC
Months before the network TV cycle entered its final stretch, ABC officially decided on the fate of 9-1-1: Nashville, greenlighting its sophomore year back in March. Aside from easing the concerns of fans who were worried about the chances of it being cancelled, its early renewal also gave the creative team behind the series the guarantee of more episodes beyond its original order. This means that the writers were able to craft a finale with the confirmation that they will continue the narrative in the 2026-2027 network TV season.
When Will 9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 Release?
While CBS has locked its fall 2026 release, ABC has yet to decide on its schedule. This is likely because it’s still weighing its options when it comes to what new shows they can debut next cycle. Since 9-1-1: Nashville is new, there’s not much to go in terms of its release schedule history. 9-1-1 has always premiered in the fall, alongside Grey’s Anatomy, High Potential and Abbott Elementary. It’s possible that the offshoot will continue to be tied to the flagship, but it’s also worth noting that 9-1-1: Lone Star was pushed to the midseason during its run. If ABC wants to spread out its Murphy-created series, this might be a viable release option for 9-1-1: Nashville.
What 9-1-1: Nashville Season 2’s Story Will Be
9-1-1: Nashville is clearly motivated by the family drama, with O’Donnell’s Don Hart at the center of its story. Firehouse 113 is already an established entity when the show started, following the suit of previous shows. The first-responder’s narrative, however, truly started with the arrival of Don’s illegitimate son, Blue, as he gets reincorporated into the family’s life. So far, Blue has been quite lovely, and Don’s family, wife Blythe and son, Ryan, have been welcoming. The issue stems from Blue’s biological mother, Dixie, who is clearly still into Don.
The roller coaster drama of 9-1-1: Nashville is expected to continue in season 2, as Blythe and Don’s marriage starts to get seriously impacted by Dixie’s shenanigans. Beyond the family drama, it’s time that the show also begins delving deeper into the personal story of other members of the 113 who are not part of the central clan to diversify its storytelling.
