The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still seen by many fans as one of the real high points in the beloved series, with millions of players still enjoying what it has to offer on the Nintendo 64 or via PC emulation. With the 40th anniversary of the franchise passing this year, fans have been even more keen to look back on the older games once again.

As part of that, fans have been expecting Nintendo to make some pretty significant announcements around the series for players to get excited about. Though those haven’t been forthcoming just yet, rumors of a remake for Ocarina of Time continue to swirl, and the latest news from elsewhere may finally have given this enough credence for fans to really start dialing up the anticipation.

You may have missed it yesterday (May 6), but Nintendo finally confirmed that a remake of the beloved Star Fox is on the way, and very soon, with a June release date already laid out. What many won’t have put together though is that we already knew that game was coming thanks to well-known leaker Nate the Hate, who at the same time also said that an Ocarina of Time remake was coming down the pipeline as well.

With Star Fox now official, fans took to Reddit to point out the Ocarina of Time connection, and the community is finally allowing itself to start getting excited.

“As long as the game takes OoT’s gameplay and story in a deeper direction, I’m sure this will be an instant masterpiece. If Nintendo plays it safe, and it’s just another remake on better hardware, it’ll be very disappointing,” one comment read.

“As much as I enjoy Star Fox 64 (it’s a great game), the fact that an OoT remake is now all but confirmed was the most exciting part of this Direct for me,” another added.

“It’s certainly way more believable now. I’m hoping they’ll do more to modernize the gameplay, not just do a 1:1 remake with modern graphics and cinematic cutscenes. As much as OoT was insanely good for its time, its gameplay engine has dated a lot more than Star Fox 64’s,” a third said.

Though we obviously don’t have a release date for the Ocarina of Time remake just yet, Nate did also put forward the claim that it’s scheduled for a 2026 release. Given how minimal the time gap is between the announcement and release of Star Fox, that’s more than possible, so let’s hope we will get to play it before the year is out.
