CBS may not be done expanding the Fire Country universe just yet. After successfully launching Sheriff Country, a third series set in the same Northern California town of Edgewater is now reportedly in very early development, and this time, the focus could shift to the medical side of first responders.

According to a new report from Deadline, the potential spinoff would center on a team of medical professionals in Edgewater, continuing the franchise’s growing interest in different corners of the emergency response world. While the project is still in its earliest stages and hasn’t even been officially pitched to CBS or CBS Studios, there are already plans to possibly introduce a key character in Sheriff Country season 2 to help set it up.

This strategy will sound familiar to fans. As Deadline previously reported, Sheriff Country itself was introduced through Fire Country before becoming a full series, with Morena Baccarin’s character first appearing in the flagship show ahead of the spinoff’s debut. CBS appears to be following that same blueprint again as it continues building out the franchise.

The untitled medical drama would be executive produced by Sheriff Country showrunner Matt Lopez, alongside franchise mainstays Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, Tony Phelan, with Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed executive producing for Jerry Bruckheimer Television. However, with development still so early, no writer is currently attached, and story specifics remain under wraps.
