A new RPG can be played for free on Steam right now, ahead of its highly anticipated release later this year, and you won’t want to miss out on this opportunity. There are several games that you can test for free on the platform, even if the games themselves are premium paid products. This allows you to know what you’re in for, and if the game clicks with you before you conclude a purchase. Recently, Steam added several free demos for players to check out as part of an event.
Now, a new event, called Lovecraftian Days, is underway on the platform, and not only are many games of the cosmic horror genre being highlighted, but new additions have joined the catalog. Among them is a demo for an upcoming game on Steam that can be downloaded and played for free right now, with no strings attached. All you have to do is head on over to the game’s product page, download the demo, and play it at any time.

Neverway Is Co-Directed By The Artist Behind Celeste
The new free download on Steam is for a game called Neverway. Produced by Coldblood Inc., a studio that was co-founded by Pedro Medeiros, the pixel artist behind the gorgeous, award-winning Celeste, Neverway is a horror-themed life sim RPG that puts you in control of Fiona. The free demo for Neverway covers the prologue episode of the game, essentially letting you check out how the game begins before the story hits some big turning points.
Similar to Stardew Valley, Neverway sees the main character start their life over on a farm after quitting a dead-end job. The big twist here is that Fiona becomes an immortal herald of a dead god. You’ll be able to farm and craft items, decorate your new home, and have major power over time progression – one of the main issues with life sims. However, there is a lot more to the game.
Neverway Is A “Nightmarish” Life Sim RPG
Imagine Stardew Valley With A Dark Twist
In addition to the life-sim mechanics that you would expect, the game also features fast-paced action-based combat. Moreover, combat in Neverway is customizable to better fit your playstyle, with unique abilities that you obtain as you form bonds with your neighbors. Indeed, there are over 10 characters for you to meet and even potentially romance, each with their own story arc – somewhat like the romance options in Stardew Valley, but with seemingly more depth.
Neverway also features a soundtrack by Disasterpiece and a slow-burning horror-themed campaign. The story comes with interactive cutscenes, which help set it apart. Neverway is set to release in October, but I encourage you to check out this RPG’s prologue demo for free on Steam.
