7 Best-Written Female Demon Slayer Characters

Demon Slayer is filled with well-written characters, and a handful of them are so well-written that they make the series better every time they’re part of it. There aren’t too many women in Demon Slayer, but the few that make an appearance influence the series massively.

Demon Slayer’s women are all over the board in terms of character. Some are amazingly powerful on the battlefield, turning the tides of combat the second they get serious. Others aren’t active on the front lines; instead, they support characters from afar, taking care of one another crucially.

Kie Kamado

Demon Slayer: Tanjiro’s mother, Kie Kamado

Kie Kamado is the matriarch of the Kamado family. She’s Tanjiro and Nezuko’s mom, and while she doesn’t get a lot of screen time after the first episode of the series, she plays a vital role in both of her living children’s respective journeys.

Kie pops up a few times when Tanjiro and Nezuko are exploring their respective subconscious. She’s a great mother in that she reassures her kids at their most pressing times, and the memory that her children have of her is a constant force for good in their lives.

Daki

On the surface, Daki might come across as a poorly written character. She’s a crybaby, very manipulative, and a evil character down to her core. As a Demon, these traits work perfectly to make her a foil to the Demon Slayers, especially noble, selfless characters like Tanjiro.

Daki plays her less-than-desirable role perfectly. She’s such an easy character to root against, and that shouldn’t be taken for granted. Villains are essential in shōnen, and Daki does a great job at giving someone for the Demon Slayers to test their might against.

Tamayo

Lady Tamayo attacks Muzan with the Anti-Kibutsuji drug after the explosion.

Tamayo is easily one of the smartest characters in Demon Slayer. She’s one of the few Demons who turned against Muzan, working tirelessly to try and find a way to bring the King of Demons down once and for all. Her Blood Demon Art is the one ability giving the Demon Slayers a fighting chance during the final arc of the series.

Tamayo was forced to work alongside Muzan for years. It would have broken most people, but it only reinforced Tamayo’s belief that she had to do something to end his reign of terror. Tamayo is one of the most reliable characters in Demon Slayer and she’s also a character who won’t let even the strongest Demon in existence tell her what to do.

Nezuko Kamado

Nezuko Kamado is a very well-written character even though she spends most of the series unable to speak. At the beginning of Demon Slayer, she was a normal teenage girl who loved her family more than anything. After the events of the first episode, however, she transformed into a Demon, but her overwhelming willpower kept her from transforming totally.

Nezuko is the only Demon in the series to maintain her sense of self, a testament to her character. She’s also ferocious in battle, never letting anyone hurt her brother without retaliation. Even though she wasn’t trained in combat like Tanjiro was, she’s a force to be reckoned with, using her Blood Demon Art incredibly well for someone so unfamiliar with the skill.

Nezuko’s story is one of patience, perseverance, and faith. She never doubts her brother, and her sense of sacrifice is second to none. She even sacrifices herself so that Tanjiro can stop Hantengu from killing some civilians in the middle of the series, only to find out that she is the first Demon in history to conquer the Sun.

Kanao Tsuyuri

Kanao Tsuyuri is one of the Demon Slayers, but she’s not your average character. She’s in a league next to Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke as a borderline Hashira-level Demon Slayer, and her fight with Doma will prove that she might as well be considered one of the pillars of the corps.

Kanao, like her mentor Shinobu, is a fairly soft-spoken character off the battlefield. On the battlefield, she’s also calculating and decisive, turning major threats into mincemeat with her expert-level swordsmanship. She also has a level of persistence unrivaled, even within the Demon Slayers, and the next film in the Demon Slayer canon will prove that quickly.

Kanao is a well-written character because of her range of emotions. She starts the series as a relatively quiet girl who would rather be in her shell than express herself openly. By the end of the series, the opposite couldn’t be more true, as she is more than willing to let her friends and foes know exactly what she’s thinking.

Shinobu Kocho

Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira, is one of the most intriguing characters in the series. She’s soft-spoken, rarely speaks her mind, and frankly, she’d rather her sword do the talking. If Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle proved anything, it’s that Shinobu is one of the bravest Demon Slayers in existence.

She found herself alone with Doma, Upper Moon Two and one of the strongest Demons in Demon Slayer. While most characters would have (rightfully) run away from such a ferocious threat, Shinobu was happy to face the Demon who took her mentor away from her. She attacked him fearlessly, cementing herself as an icon of the Demon Slayers.

Shinobu’s best moment is yet to come, as the next film in the Demon Slayer trilogy of movies will showcase the efforts of her hard work. She’s a powerfully gentle Demon Slayer who might also be one of the smartest, most strategic characters in the series. If Muzan was half as wise as Shinobu, the Demons would have won a long time ago.

Mitsuri Kanroji

Mitsuri Kanroji isn’t just one of the strongest Hashira in Demon Slayer she’s one of the best written characters in the series. All too often, female characters are put on the back burner or used for fan service. While Mitsuri’s character might not be beating the fan service allegations, there’s no denying that her character arc is one of the best in the entire series.

There are few characters as refreshing as Mitsuri. She’s a breath of fresh air every time she’s on-screen, and her over-the-top positivity and optimism makes her a person you want around you at all times. She’s not positive for no reason either, as a lot of series would make her a ball of energy for no real reason.

Mitsuri has been through a lot in her life. Her backstory explained that she never fit in the way others wanted her to, and for a long time, she hated herself because of it. Once she found a home for her true self (and her ridiculous physical strength), she was able to blossom into the person she was always supposed to be.

The Love Hashira is someone you want around you on and off the battlefield. Her fight against Upper Moon Four, Hantengu, showed that she’s not one of the Hashira for nothing. Her Love Breathing is a sight to behold every time she’s in battle, and the next Demon Slayer movie will give her the conclusion to her character arc that she more than deserves.
