2 Of The Most Famous K-Drama Actors Right Now Starred In A Rom-Com Together – And It Didn’t Work

Three years ago, Park Min-young and Song Kang starred in a romantic K-drama, Forecasting Love and Weather, and it left a lot to be desired. As two of South Korea’s most famous actors, Song Kang and Park Min-young have appeared in K-drama masterpieces in the past few years. While Song Kang is a relatively new actor, he has achieved star status due to his roles in Sweet Home, Love Alarm, and My Demon. All his K-dramas became global sensations on Netflix, earning him the title “The Son of Netflix.”

Park Min-young, on the other hand, has had an illustrious acting career and has worked with some of the biggest names in K-dramas, such as Lee Min-ho and Park Seo-joon. In all her TV shows, Park Min-young gives a great and memorable performance, thus cementing her status as one of South Korea’s best actors. Two famous actors collaborating in K-dramas is nothing new. In some cases, it works well, but in others, it’s disappointing, as was the case for Park Min-young and Song Kang.

Park Min-young And Song Kang Played The Lead Couple In Forecasting Love And Weather

Forecasting Love And Weather Is A Sweet Office Romance

Debuting in 2022, there were a lot of high hopes for Song Kang and Park Min-young’s first collaboration. In Forecasting Love and Weather, Song Kang took on the role of Lee Si-woo, a junior forecaster at the Korea Meteorological Department, while Park Min-young played Jin Ha-kyung, his boss. The two characters fall for each other as they get closer. Their relationship isn’t devoid of complications since Ha-kyung is Si-woo’s boss and isn’t eager for their co-workers to find out about their relationship due to how her previous one ended.

Song Kang & Park Min-young Are 2 Of My Favorite K-Drama Actors, But I’m Not Sure How I Feel About Their 3-Year-Old Workplace Rom-Com

Song Kang and Park Min-young took the male and female lead roles, respectively, in this 2022 K-drama — but I don’t how I feel about their rom-com.

Forecasting Love and Weather is a fun and lighthearted K-drama that perfectly blends office romance with interesting facts about the weather. Song Kang and Park Min-young are a sweet lead couple who make it easy to root for their relationship. While the series mainly focuses on Si-woo and Ha-kyung, it also delves into other subplots and ensures that other characters are as well-developed as the primary protagonists.

Forecasting Love And Weather Was A Pretty Ordinary Office Romance K-Drama

Despite having two of the most famous K-drama actors as part of its cast, Forecasting Love and Weather doesn’t have a unique premise. It’s basically an office romance K-drama that doesn’t add anything new to the trope. It follows the same formula as other series in the genre, and has a predictable plot. For instance, the way Ha-kyung is against making her relationship public with Si-woo due to the stigma she would face from her co-workers is something that has been seen countless times before.

Forecasting Love and Weather isn’t the first time that Park Min-young has taken the lead role in an office romance story. She has starred opposite Park Seo-joon in What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim and also had a role in one of 2024’s best K-dramas, Marry My Husband. While both of these TV shows were about love in the workplace, they were a little more interesting than Forecasting Love and Weather because of the way their stories were executed.

It would have been far more interesting if Forecasting Love and Weather were more of a forbidden love story.

Although Ha-kyung was older than Si-woo, their age difference wasn’t a huge part of the K-drama. It would have been far more interesting if Forecasting Love and Weather were more of a forbidden love story, rather than an office romance. While that concept wouldn’t be treading new waters, it would have added an element of complexity that the series was missing.

Park Min-young And Song Kang’s First Collaboration Deserved A Better Story

Park Min-young And Song Kang’s First Collaboration Didn’t Have To Be A Romantic K-Drama

It wouldn’t be fair to say that Forecasting Love and Weather is a bad K-drama because it isn’t. The show is charming, sweet, and has engaging stories outside Si-woo and Ha-kyung’s relationship. At the time Forecasting Love and Weather debuted, Song Kang was making a name for himself in the K-drama scene while Park Min-young was already considered one of the best actors in South Korea. Given the level they were both at and their huge fan bases, the first time the two actors worked together should have been memorable.

Although the romantic K-drama genre still employs fan-favorite tropes, they usually have a unique storyline that stays with audiences long after the credits roll. Unfortunately, Forecasting Love and Weather isn’t one of those shows. Park Min-young and Song Kang’s first collaboration didn’t necessarily have to be in a romantic K-drama, as they’ve both shown that they are capable of starring in different genres. There are a multitude of stories that might have suited two actors of such caliber, including a mystery or thriller.
