One of Universal Pictures’ recent blockbuster hits is officially arriving soon on Peacock, nearly four months after its debut.

Since the animated franchise began in 2010, the Despicable Me movies have continued to perform very well at the box office. After six movies, Illumination has returned this year with a new Despicable Me prequel movie featuring everyone’s favorite chaotic yellow henchmen. During its theatrical run, Minions & Monsters grossed around $524 million at the global box office against a budget of $85 million. Now, fans who didn’t get a chance to watch it in theaters will finally get to see it soon, as the prequel film receives a Peacock release date for its upcoming streaming debut.

Minions & Monsters has been scheduled to premiere on Peacock, starting on Wednesday, October 28. The ninth-highest-grossing movie of 2026 will arrive on the streaming platform, alongside a full collection of bonus content, which includes several featurettes by the cast and crew. Despite its commercial success, the film wasn’t able to exceed its predecessors, as it has become the lowest-grossing installment of the entire animated series, rounding out the franchise’s combined gross to over $6 billion. The Peacock streaming release also features the following bonus content:

Minions & Monsters brings the audience to the story of how Gru’s fan-favorite henchmen conquered Hollywood during the 1920s. It features the Minions trying to make their own monster movie, which ultimately results in chaos after they accidentally unleash real monsters on the world. Now, they have to find a way to undo their mistake and save the world from this mayhem. This marks the second movie of the franchise that didn’t center around Steve Carell’s Gru, who only appeared during the film’s credits sequence.

The new 90-minute prequel was directed by Pierre Coffin and Patrick Delage, with Coffin also writing the screenplay alongside executive producer Brian Lynch. The star-studded voice cast was led by Coffin, Trey Parker, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeff Bridges, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, and Phil LaMarr. Reviews for Minions & Monsters were highly positive, with critics calling it a surprisingly charming addition and an entertaining love letter to the magic of filmmaking. Because of this, it has become the franchise’s highest-rated installment, with a fresh rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

During an interview with ScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender, Coffin confirmed that there are no official plans for a Minions 4 movie. However, just like the 2026 prequel, he wants the next movies to feature the Minions in different places and time periods. One of the potential scenarios he mentioned was placing the titular henchmen in Japan during the Middle Ages.

As for the main movies, the studio hasn’t announced any plans for Despicable Me 5, two years after the fourth one’s release. Franchise director Chris Renaud had hinted that a sequel was “certainly possible,” but it would still depend on the project’s story, which should “cover some fresh territory.” Since Despicable 4 nearly grossed over $1 billion worldwide, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the studio were to soon unveil its plans for the franchise.
