The One Piece universe is filled with incredible combat styles. From the unpredictable abilities of Devil Fruits to specific martial arts like Fish-Man Karate, both pirates and Marines have plenty of ways to fight. Yet, with the series now deep in its Final Saga, it is clear that one power system rules above all: Haki.
During the raid on Onigashima, Kaido made a very clear point about this reality, explicitly stating that Devil Fruits alone are not enough to rule the world because Haki transcends everything. Gol D. Roger stands as the solid example of this truth, having conquered the unforgiving Grand Line and claimed the title of Pirate King using nothing but his own immense willpower.
From flawlessly predicting enemy movements to coating weapons in destructive black lightning, Haki effectively levels the playing field. Possessing a strong spirit is the only way to shatter the strongest defenses in the world and take down its most powerful users. While many characters can use the basic forms of this energy, a rare handful have pushed their skills to a completely different level, boasting the strongest Haki in the entire series.

Harald
Boasting an overwhelming mastery over Conqueror’s Haki, the late King of Elbaph firmly cemented his place among the absolute legends of his era. While infiltrating the holy land of Mary Geoise, Harald clashed evenly with the infamous Rocks D. Xebec, sending powerful shockwaves from their collision that instantly knocked out everyone within a five-kilometer radius. Later on, their intense rematch on Elbaph ended up in a complete draw.
Even when facing fighters like Scopper Gaban and young Shanks, the Elbaph King’s overwhelming Haki made it impossible for either pirate to overcome him. After being manipulated by Imu through the Depths Covenant, Harald’s mind was hijacked to turn him into a weapon of mass destruction.
However, his overwhelming Conqueror’s Haki allowed him to briefly resist the mind control, something even Rocks had difficulty doing. It ultimately took a devastating, Conqueror’s Haki-infused lightning strike from his son, Loki, to finally shatter the giant’s legendary defenses and grant him peace.

Monkey D. Luffy
Monkey D. Luffy is far more than just a brawler with a goofy Devil Fruit; he is a combat prodigy who has perfectly mastered all three forms of advanced Haki. During his time in Wano, the Straw Hat captain unlocked future sight, internal destruction, and a Conqueror’s infusion strong enough to split the heavens against Kaido. This level of mastery proved crucial on Egghead, allowing Luffy to physically flatten Admiral Kizaru and Saint Saturn simultaneously.
The newly crowned Emperor continues to grow stronger in Elbaph as well. After Scopper Gaban revealed that Conqueror’s infusion actively inhibits the immortality of the Knights of God, Luffy used this vital knowledge to combine his Gear 5 form with a lethal Haki coating. The Straw Hat captain managed to grab a literal bolt of lightning to unleash the Gomu Gomu no Dawn Thor Rifle. This devastating strike completely obliterated Shepherd Sommers and fully neutralized his Devil Fruit.
One Piece: Every Gear 5 Ability, Ranked Weakest to Strongest
One Piece’s most transformative power-up, the Gear 5, is Luffy’s most devastating ability. However, there are layers to its destructive capacity.
In combat, Luffy uses his advanced Armament Haki to project his willpower outward, allowing him to destroy targets from the inside out and deal heavy internal damage. His exceptional Observation Haki perfectly complements this skill that lets him see seconds into the future. By seamlessly blending future sight, internal destruction, and Conqueror’s infusion into his awakened Gear 5 state, the Sun God clearly stands as a true powerhouse of the modern era.

Whitebeard
Long before relying on his destructive Devil Fruit abilities, Edward Newgate built his legendary reputation through pure combat mastery. During the infamous God Valley Incident, a younger Whitebeard fearlessly attacked Imu, who was possessing Saturn, and managed to deflect a mountain-shattering strike from a demon-transformed Rocks D. Xebec.
What made this powerhouse truly terrifying was his pure instinct in battle. Whitebeard possessed incredibly sharp Observation Haki, which allowed him to easily detect Kozuki Oden from miles away on the shores of Wano. Furthermore, he casually stopped multiple assassination attempts from Ace while snoring loudly in a deep sleep.
During his prime, Newgate pushed his Conqueror’s Haki to the absolute extreme. While fighting Gol D. Roger, he projected an invisible barrier of black lightning out from his naginata, creating a legendary clash that split the sky without their weapons ever physically connecting.
Even at death’s door, weighed down by a terminal illness and hundreds of fatal combat wounds, Whitebeard’s Armament Haki stayed incredibly sharp. It was potent enough to completely bypass the magma intangibility of Fleet Admiral Akainu, allowing the legendary pirate to inflict serious damage until his final breath.
7
Loki
The Accursed Prince of Elbaph is an absolute monster with a truly terrifying command over Haki. Even among the seasoned elite of the New World, Loki easily stands out as one of the rare fighters capable of using an advanced infusion of Conqueror’s Haki. His pure willpower is so potent that it can successfully bypass the immortality granted by Imu.
The Prince displayed this unprecedented power during a tragic confrontation to stop his maddened father, King Harald. By unleashing a Conqueror’s Haki-infused strike from his legendary hammer, Ragnir, Loki permanently canceled out the immortality granted by the Depths Covenant, killing his father in the process.
Loki’s Haki usage becomes even more devastating when paired with his Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhöggr. While transformed into the largest known dragon, he smoothly weaves Conqueror’s Haki directly into massive lightning blasts. In addition, the Accursed Prince of Elbaph possesses a keen Observation Haki that lets him instantly sense Imu’s chilling arrival on the giant island. Through these incredible feats, Loki has repeatedly proven he has the sheer strength to clash directly with the ruler of the world.
6
Rocks D. Xebec
The infamous captain of the Rocks Pirates possessed a truly terrifying mastery over Conqueror’s Haki. During an early showdown with King Harald at Mary Geoise, the sheer force of their collision instantly knocked out everyone within a five-kilometer radius. Rocks expertly used advanced infusion to deal devastating damage across the battlefield.
By coating his blade in black lightning, he created a direct counter to the formidable Knights of God. His strikes managed to cancel out their immortality, leaving elite fighters like Saint Garling with severe, lingering wounds.
Yet, his most insane feat unfolded during the legendary God Valley Incident. After being transformed into a demon by Imu, Rocks used his Conqueror’s Haki as defensive full-body armor. This special barrier was so dense that it completely canceled out the combined infused attacks of Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp. The sheer impact of this epic clash even split the sky in the process. To finally shatter this perfect defense, the two legends were forced to unleash a synchronized, critical mass Haki blast.
5
Monkey D. Garp
Monkey D. Garp became a renowned figure across the seas of One Piece using nothing but his bare fists. The legendary Marine Hero fights the strongest opponents alive by relying entirely on his flawless mastery of all three forms of Haki.
His Armament Haki alone is historic. Garp famously crushed Don Chinjao’s drill head with a single hardened punch and effortlessly bypassed Marco’s regenerative phoenix flames during the Paramount War. However, his advanced Conqueror’s Haki is what truly makes him an unstoppable monster.
During the thrilling Hachinosu rescue mission, Garp leaped from a flying ship to unleash his signature Galaxy Impact. This massive attack completely leveled a town plaza, proving the Vice Admiral can project his infused willpower outward to cause widespread destruction without making physical contact.
Furthermore, Garp utilized this same advanced Haki coating to physically overpower former Admiral Kuzan, as well as severely damage the island-sized Avalo Pizarro. When combined with a razor-sharp Observation Haki that can easily intercept an invisible Shiryu, Garp undeniably proves that he doesn’t need a Supreme Grade Weapon to stand among the legends.
4
Gol D. Roger
The Pirate King did not just sail the Grand Line; he completely dominated it. Gol D. Roger possessed a level of Conqueror’s Haki so immense that it literally split the sky. When he crossed blades with Whitebeard, the raw impact of their Haki-infused clash easily pushed back massive ships, sending heavy shockwaves tearing across the entire island.
What makes this even more impressive is that Roger ruled his era without ever needing a Devil Fruit. His Armament Haki was so incredibly strong that a single strike effortlessly swatted away a renowned powerhouse like Kozuki Oden. The Pirate King perfectly mastered projecting his Haki outward, allowing him to blast enemies away without his sword ever making physical contact. While fighting alongside Garp, the Pirate King actively used this intense Conqueror’s Haki to finally bypass the immortality of Rocks. Long before the current era, Roger proved that raw Haki is the ultimate key to conquering the seas.
3
Shanks
When it comes to pure Haki mastery, Red-Haired Shanks sits in a league of his own, being one of the rare users to wield all three types of it. The Emperor famously rules the New World without Devil Fruit powers, relying heavily on Haki and his sword skills to maintain his reign.
His Conqueror’s Haki output is exactly what makes other pirates and Marines hesitate before making an enemy out of him. The heavy pressure this aura creates is so potent that it can literally destroy ships. The Red-Haired Pirate captain even managed to paralyze Admiral Ryokugyu from miles off the coast of Wano using just one highly focused blast.
Shanks perfectly mixes this raw power with unmatched swordsmanship. The Emperor infused advanced Conqueror’s Haki into his sword, Gryphon, to easily wipe out Eustass Kid and Killer in one single swing.
Beyond that incredible offense, Shanks is a master of advanced Observation Haki, granting him the ability to see seconds into the future and prevent the unfolding disasters. This also allows the Emperor to use Observation Killing. This technique flawlessly hides his presence and shuts down the ability of his opponents to use future sight. Without a doubt, Shanks is the ultimate Haki powerhouse of the current pirate era.
2
Nerona Imu
Imu’s mastery over Conqueror’s Haki is truly terrifying to witness. Upon arriving on Elbaph, the King of the World unleashed a massive burst of Haki that easily took down many experienced Giant Warrior Pirates. The sheer radius of this single burst managed to cover almost all of Elbaph. The overwhelming power of this devastating move left even the legendary Scopper Gaban completely stunned, explicitly stating that Imu’s Haki completely dwarfed anything he experienced during the infamous God Valley Incident.
Beyond just pure destructive force, Imu’s Observation Haki operates on a massive global scale. The mysterious ruler instantly sensed Joy Boy’s Haki all the way on Egghead Island despite being physically present at Mary Geoise. Having been alive for over 800 years, Imu stands as the strongest character in One Piece right now.
1
Joyboy
When it comes to unleashing overwhelming Haki, a legendary figure from the Void Century stands at the very top. Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki is so intense that it makes the current Emperors look completely tame in comparison. What makes the First Pirate a true master of this ability is his unique application of the power. He managed to actually “tie” his Conqueror’s Haki into a knot, successfully preserving its monstrous intensity inside the Iron Giant for over eight centuries.
When this ancient Haki finally exploded on Egghead Island, its raw force instantly knocked out every Marine in the area, including several Vice Admirals. Astoundingly, it acted as a direct counter to the Five Elders, canceling out their transformations and banishing them straight back to Mary Geoise.
The giant warriors Dorry and Brogy even confirmed that this burst of Haki felt far more powerful than that of Shanks. Even a lingering trace of Joy Boy’s Haki was enough to leave Imu visibly shaken all the way in Mary Geoise, proving the First Pirate still stands as the strongest Haki user in One Piece history so far.
