Tottenham and Chelsea are both competing to sign Swiss international attacking midfielder Ruben Vargas from Sevilla, with Spurs ready to pay £27.5 million in the January transfer window, and Chelsea considering a part-exchange deal with the La Liga outfit that could include Benoit Badiashile. It is understood though that Spurs are in pole position to secure the 27-year-old’s signature.
New Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has been informed that he will have money to spend in the January transfer window, and earmarked Vargas as a priority signing in the winter months.
Chelsea are looking to add steel and depth to their squad for the second half of the campaign and maanger Enzo Maresca is a fan of Vargas, and has asked his club to see if some kind of player swap arrangement can be agreed with Sevilla.
Vargas came through the ranks in his home country with Luzern, before moving to FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga in 2019. In 2025, Sevilla purchased the winger in a deal worth a reported 15 million euros.
