As the much-awaited Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan approaches, Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson has sent a clear message to his players – ignore distractions and focus solely on cricket.
“Just focus on cricket and that certainly we will be doing”: Mike Hesson
The arch-rivals are set to clash for the third time in the tournament, but much of the build-up has revolved around off-field controversies and provocative gestures.
“Look, my message to the players is just focus on cricket and that certainly we will be doing. In terms of gestures there has always been passion in terms of high-pressure games,” Hesson said ahead of the summit clash. “The only match that counts is the final, and that will be our focus, to play our best game when it matters.”
Pakistan draws confidence from Super 4 victory against Bangladesh
Reflecting on Pakistan’s journey, Hesson highlighted the team’s resilience in their must-win clash against Bangladesh. Despite a shaky start, Pakistan recovered to register an 11-run victory and book their spot in the final.
“Your opposition often doesn’t allow you to play the perfect game, and we were far from perfect. But there’s a huge amount of character in this group. We don’t want to be four for 33 all the time, but the fact that we can win from that position shows the strength of this side,” he explained.
The coach praised the players’ fighting spirit, noting how each member believed in turning the game around. “That’s what you want in a team, especially when representing a country. I’m incredibly proud of the way we fought,” he added.

Hesson explains fielding challenges in Dubai
Hesson also addressed fielding conditions at the Dubai International Stadium, known for its challenging “ring of fire” floodlights. Pakistan were sharp in the field against Bangladesh, while their opponents dropped three costly catches.
“The ring of fire they talk about certainly affected everybody. If someone hits the ball directly into the lights, your depth perception can disappear despite all the practice,” Hesson said. He acknowledged that even tournament favourites India have struggled, dropping 12 catches so far, including eight in their last two games.
With both teams eager to lift the trophy, Hesson emphasized that Pakistan must channel their energy into the contest itself rather than the noise surrounding it. “We’ve deserved this opportunity. Now it’s up to us to make the most of it,” he concluded.
The India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 final will definitely be a high-pressure encounter, where skill, temperament, and discipline would decide the winner.
